County Building Boom Increases as Lifetime Purchases Kroeger Estate
Orange county's building boom will take another step forward in October according to the announcement this week that the Kroeger Estate in Fullerton has been purchased by Lifetime Homes Inc., for subdividing purposes.
The Lifetime Home Company that has sold nearly 1,000 homes in Orange county in the past 12 months, revealed that immediate plans called for 104 residences on the new site. The Kroeger Estate adjoins the company's present tract in Fullerton at East Chapman at Princeton Circle.
Henry C. Cox, president of the Lifetime firm, stated that work would begin "very soon" on the homes that would be three-bedroom houses of tropical modern design selling in the 10-to-12-thousand dollar bracket.
"Lots will be beautifully landscaped and every modern improvement will be included in the homes that will be carefully constructed of high quality materials to live up to Lifetime standards" Cox assured.
The Lifetime Company has also built homes in Santa Ana and Anaheim.
The Santa Ana tract is now sold and only a few homes remain in the Anaheim tract and the Fullerton tract.
These homes are now being offered to veterans for no-downpayment.
Golden Westers Set State Picnic in L.A.
Realizing that the natives of almost every state in the Union hold a State Picnic annually, here in California, and reasoning that the Californians should do likewise, the Los Angeles County InterParlor Committee, Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West, will realize a dream of long standing by sponsoring a California State Picnic on Sunday, October 15, 1950, in Sycamore Grove, Los Angeles.
"The picnic is open to all native-born Californians and their families, whether or not they are members of our two Orders" said Mr. John B. Schmolle, president of the group in making the announcement today.
"We will welcome all Californians and urge as many as possible to come out and join in this tribute to our Golden State."
The event is a basket lunch affair and the day will start with registration at 10 a.m. Following will be a series of races and other athletic events for everyone, young and old.
The lunch period will ensue and the early afternoon will be highlighted by a program of enter-
State Industry Tops Billion
California today topped a billion and a third dollars in industrial expansion since V-J Day.
Governor Warren announced that more than 8100 businesses $1,380,000,000 into building fences—about half of them entirely new ventures; the remaining extension of existing facilities.
"This," Governor Warren said, "represents an investment by private capital nearly three times large as during the previous five year period from 1940 to 1945.
In the construction field alone more than half a billion dollars worth of building was started the first five months of this year.
"This," Warren said, "surpasses the urban building record of any other state, including New York."

MOLASSES SOURS TRUCK HELP
OLNEY, Ill. (IP)—Charles Butler knew his truck needed oil as he prepared to leave for work. He grabbed a jug in his garage and poured the contents into the oil tank. Instead of oil, however, the jug contained molasses.
"The motor sure smelled sweet but it didn't work so good," Butler said. Arriving home, he took the truck to a garage for a molasses change.
