Nightly Meetings at Calvary Baptist Church Feature Equestrian Speaker
This week, each night at 7:30, Dr. L. Marlon Smith, noted evangelical speaker, conducts special meetings at the Calvary Baptist church, Broadway at Citron. The meetings are designed to answer the vital questions, "How to Escape the Atomic Bomb?" "Does Truth Ever Change?" "Where Do We Go From Here," and "Is Heaven a Dream or a Reality?"
Dr. Smith is a nationally known speaker and singer and has incorporated with these specialties, his hobby of horsemanship. He has spoken to large groups of mounted church-goers all over the country, some numbering as high as 350.
Particularly notable are the mounted sunrise services conducted by Dr. Smith near San Diego for the past four years.
An interesting sidelight to which Dr. Smith points is that during these services, the horses have always remained still. He wishes, he says, that the same were always true of his audiences.
Dr. Smith's subject tonight is "Does Truth Ever Change?" According to Calvary Baptist Pastor Bob Kevorkian, the talk will resolve the question of eternal truth as opposed to truth one day and falsehood the next.
The public is cordially invited to attend the meeting each night at the Calvary Baptist church.

Intelligence reports indicated the reds have only seven planes remaining, including three twin-engined bombers, and about 90 tanks which might include some damaged and later repaired.
Stratemeyer said FEAF's total of red tanks destroyed might include duplications, but explained that pilots' reports had been reduced by a third to equalize that factor.
Regarding Chinese communist charges of air attacks on Manchurian villages, North of Korea, Stratemeyer commented:
"This has been accidental."

WASHINGTON — The federal government is sticking to its view that states and localities must shoulder the main responsibility for civil defense against possible enemy air attack.
This is being made clear in conferences state defense authorities are having with James J. Wadsworth, acting director of the Civil Defense office of the National Security Resources Board (NSRB).
Many state officials have protested that the federal government is not taking an active enough role in civil defense planning and furnishing of emergency supplies and warning devices. Wadsworth told civilian defense officials from western states yesterday:
"You cannot rely upon the federal government to provide you with all the tools you need to build an adequate civil defense structure. That leaves a grave responsibility in your hands."
"The federal government will help you to the limit of its resources in terms of today's economy. But the job is always and everlastingly yours."
An order by President Truman establishing a federal civil defense administration has been drafted though not yet formalized.
