Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN S. NEUBAUER IT ISN'T SO—Catherine and Wayne Osborn assured us that the four lines o' type we ran about them aren't so. Our news-line was misconstrued, so the GAZETTEER publicly apologizes to the ANAHEIMERS. SIGNS—ANAHEIM is not only the Industrial heart of Orange county. ANAHEIM is a city of beautiful parks, schools and churches. ANAHEIM is an ideal place to live! To do justice to ANAHEIM and its 15,000 citizens the signs at the entrance to the city must catch the spirit of ANAHEIM... It isn't easy but it can be done. COMMENTARY — ANAHEIM can be proud of men like Ray Reafanyder. The businessman has just been made chairman of the 1950 ANAHEIM Community Chesapeake Drive. He will head the campaign to raise $22,500. That will mean a lot of hard work, and while there will be several hundred workers in the drive, it is such public spirited ANAHEIMERS as Reafanyder, Cityde Cromer, Louis Hoskins and Judge John Shea who are willing to devote their time and energies to a worthy cause that makes ANAHEIM the city it is. PASSING—G. Hart Chesley has been laid to rest. As it must to all New Home Owners Bring City Revenue Says Builder Cox Henry C. Cox, president and general manager of Lifetime Homes Inc., commenting upon the building and economic future of Orange county, pointed out today that the income of home owners on the average tract of 100 new homes brings to the county an estimated half-million dollars of purchasing power each year. “In Anaheim,” the builder declared, “our tracts represent a $2,500,000 investment and in Fullerton and Santa Ana $1,250,000 each. While the money required for the materials and wages, which go into these homes, represents a big economic force, the greatest factor over the years is the buying power which these residences bring to each community.” “Count the number of new 25, 50 or 100-home tracts in the county or tabulate the number of single homes and look ahead to the purchasing power they will bring to the county and the results will amaze you,” the company’s head pointed out. The Lifetime Company is now selling homes in Anaheim and Fullerton, which will wind up the greatest single company home building development in the county's history. Lifetime Home's third tract in Santa Ana was sold out several weeks ago. The total of the three tracts and other smaller developments in the county by the same group, has been nearly 1000 homes. County 4-H'ers Nab LA Fair Awards PASSING—G. Hart Chesley has been laid to rest. As it must to all men, death came to the prominent Long Beach and Northern Orange country transportation company executive in the 68th year of his life. He established an oilfield trucking business in Brea in 1920 and in 1931 moved to Long Beach where he established the Chesley Transportation Company. He was active in fraternal organizations. He was a member of the Brea Lions Club, the California Vistadores, the El Rodeo Riding Club, the ANAHEIM Elks and was the founder of the Long Beach Mounted Police. RECOGNITION — Wayne Andrade, ANAHEIM's outstanding florist, is doing an outstanding job and gaining further recognition for himself and ANAHEIM with his gorgeous floral work at the Pomona Fair. A keen judge of color harmony and arrangement, Andrade's floral displays are breath-taking in their beauty and design. HORSEMAN—Johnny Wagner, well-known Placentia pioneer and horselover, is a determined individual. He loves parades and will take part even if he has to ride in a hoss and buggy rather than astride a fiery steed. You can't keep a good man from taking part in a parade. APOLOGY—Recently, the GAZETTEER got himself a couple of "leg men" to help dig up newslines about ANAHEIMERS. The result proved to be interesting as it caused tempers to flare. "Where did you get your information?" irate subscribers called on the selling homes in Anaheim and Fullerton, which will wind up the greatest single company home building development in the county's history. Lifetime Home's third tract in Santa Ana was sold out several weeks ago. The total of the three tracts and other smaller developments in the county by the same group, has been nearly 1000 homes. County 4-H'ers Nab L.A. Fair Awards Orange County 4-H members captured a large share of prizes at the Los Angeles county fair, announced Anne Girod, home adviser for the Agricultural Extension Service, in charge of the county 4-H work. "Saturday, September 23, was 4-H day at the fair, with Orange county 4-H members taking an active part in all contests," continues Miss Girod. Some 50 boys and girls from the six southern counties participated in the agricultural judging contests and captured three trophies. The Orange county youngsters were named outstanding in the swine, dairy, and goats divisions. Frank Maise of Placentia, was named top scoring youth in the contest. Jim Harlas, Placentia, won second place. Seven boys tied for third place ribbon; three boys were from Orange county: Lee Myers, Placentia; Roy Rosedale, Yorba Linda, and Ralph Rosedale, Yorba Linda. phone . . . "It isn't so!" . . So, once again, on behalf of the lads who someday will be topflight newspapermen, the GAZETTEER apologizes to all upon whose toes he unitentionally tread . . . In pounding out a column every knock isn't a boost, but has been an opportunity for a couple of worthy youngsters to learn the intricacies of a fascinating business—newspapering . . . So, to all you nice people, we apologize if we've said anything you didn't like. REMEMBER—To err is human, but it's hard to overlook the other fellow's faults.
