For Results and Quick Page 7 Anaheim Gazette, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1950 Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN S. NEUBAUER ANAHEIMITEMS — George and Clara Jones, the ANAHEIMERS, are trailer-camping through Yellowstone National Park... Bob Ypeger, a former ANAHEIMER, is now a big wheel with an insurance company... Larry Quille who was reared in ANAHEIM is now one of Orange county's foremost ad-chasers and (spectator) sports... Roy Fairbairn, the Yorba Linda orchardist who also operates a trailer sales agency on the inter-city strip, is a man to be admired for his courage and fortitude. He lost a leg, but hasn't let the handicap bother him in the least... T. Stanley Warburton, the headman of the North ANAHEIM (Fullerton t'you, suh) educational foundry, says that "athletics at Fullerton are played as the outgrowth of a program that includes serious concern for the health and physical development of all our students"... Speaking of education, leads the GAZETEER up to the fine work that is being done by ANAHEIM's kindergarten teachers. As the twig is the handicap bother him in the least . . . T. Stanley Warburtan, the headman of the North ANAHEIM (Fullerton you, suh) educational foundry, says that "athletics at Fullerton are played as the outgrowth of a program that includes serious concern for the health and physical development of all our students" . . . Speaking of education, leads the GAZETTEER up to the fine work that is being done by ANAHEIM's kindergarten teachers. As the twig is bent, so will the tree grow. And as the pupil is taught so will the child learn. Marjorie Strain, Eloise Smith, and Betty McDonald are just three of the eight ANAHEIM kindergarten teachers who are doing praiseworthy work . . . Moe Pitts, the ANAHEIM collie fancier, files his dawgs to shows all over the country. Airline stewardesses are fond of his well behaved, expensive animals . CONGRATULATIONS — ANAHEIMERS, the few who did turn out to vote on the sewer bond issue, are to be congratulated for exercising their God-given privilege. Those who didn't should remember to do a little better the next time. Failure to vote is inexcusable. NOTES—ANAHEIM's whiz kid, Dick Craft, is really a speed merchant. He drove his modified gas buggy 109.09 miles per hour over the county air strip Sunday. That's traveling . . . Ray Pixley, the ill-fated dirt track racer from ANAHEIM, used to drive a tamale special when ANAHEIM's Morales Brothers were in the racing spotlight . . . T. N. (Brick) Gaines, the Santa Ana newspaperman who had a leadfoot, will tell you that Ray Pixley was one of the best . . . Dr. Edward Lee Russell, reported a case of an ANAHEIM man who had pollo and didn't know it . . . Mrs. Esther Schoneveld and her son, Anthony, ANAHEIMERS, are suing Eugene Kelly for more than $35,000 damages as a result of an automobile accident in ANAHEIM on June 7 . . . Catherine Osborn is suing her husband, Wayne, for divorce. He had a "violent and ungovernable temper" it was asserted . . . The GAZETTEER is sending a couple of "get-acquainted" comps to the Orange Drive-In Theater to a couple of ANAHEIMERS who might enjoy a couple of technicolor hits. John J. Wark and John B. Johnson are the ANAHEIMERS who'll get a letter from the GAZETTEER this week . PROFILE—Charles Griffith is HIS HONOR HONORED—Judge Robert Gardner had no objections when he was selected by Helen Weir, 17, of Anaheim to buy the first two tickets to the Peace Officer's Ball, Don Dunbar, president of the Orange County Peace Officer's Association looks on and explains to the judge that the ball will be at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa on Friday, October 13, Miss Weir, who was the Queen of the Orange County Fair, made the sale ever easier by pointing out that Spade Cooley and his famous band will furnish the dance music. Tickets are available from any Orange County peace officer and are doubly valuable because of over $1,000.00 in door prizes that will be awarded. More 1949 YMCA Donators Listed Anaheim YMCA today released a list of additional contributors to the YMCA fund last year. The bulk of the 1949 contributors, some 900 in all, appeared in a recent issue of the Gazette. The latest list: Bessie Frey, Henrietta Slingsby, Pearl Sweitzer, W. H. Bonney, Blanche S. Daniels, V. O. Elliott, P. S. Doane, B. F. Mattox, Ruth C. Williams, Mary L. Fitz, Adah L. Wilcox, Eldon Hauck, Lucia L. Upp, Harriet Schadewald, Edward Barge, A. E. Bourne, Helen Cohn, Katherine Hebner, Irene Holland, Alexander Jimenez, Helen Klatt, Dorothy Link, Milfred Lucas, Gladys Malmrose, Thelma Moon, Virginia Palmeri, W. A. Schmitt, Anna Clark, Chester Fowler, Hazel Givson, Clara Harmon, Mary Keenan. Florence Littrell, Barbara Smith, Joyce Sweeney, Gertrude Anderson, Helen Beasley, Ann Davis, Margaret Haugh, Betty McDonald, Audrey Vail, Ellen Dana, Adele Howard, Bernice Joly; Merle Strin Helen Todd. ZAHAROPOULOS husband and wife have this day filed their application praying for an ORDER OF THIS COURT changing their names to the proposed names, respectively, of: PERRY ZAHARIAS and LEONIE P. ZAHARIAS IT IS ORDERED that all persons interested in the above entitled matter appear before the said Superior Court in Department 2 at 10:00 A.M., of said day, to wit: October 13, 1950; TO SHOW CAUSE why the said application for CHANGE OF NAME should not be granted. AND IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that a copy of this ORDER be published in the ANAHEIM GAZETTE a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in the said County of Orange for four successive weeks prior to the 13th day of October, 1950. DATED this 5 day of September, 1950. FRANKLIN G. WEST, Judge of the Superior Court. PERICLES ZAHAROPOULOS, 255 4th Street, Seal Beach, California, (His own attorney). SUING her husband, Wayne, for divorce. He had a "violent and ungovernable temper" it was asserted... The GAZETTEER is sending a couple of "get-acquainted" comps to the Orange Drive-In Theater to a couple of ANAHEIMERS who might enjoy a couple of technicolor hits. John J. Wark and John B. Johnson are the ANAHEIMERS who'll get a letter from the GAZETTEER this week. PROFILE—Charles Griffith is an ANAHEIMER who has devoted his life's work to public service. As city clerk, he must work with the city council and coordinate various details beside keeping records of utmost importance. Charlie is well suited for his job because he has ANAHEIM's interests at heart. SHORTAKES—Charles L. Ruby, the North ANAHEIM instructor and coin collector, has been singularly honored by the American Numismatic Society's medal of merit. Ruby collaborated on the first text books on coins... Dr. Verner Rich who owns the remnants of a walnut grove north of ANAHEIM, has an oriental coin collection second to that of an Indian maharaja... Frank Kellogg was an outstanding lightweight coach. Mike McGonigle, the ANAHEIMER who ought to know, says Kellogg was only second to Albert W. Dowden who taught briefly in ANAHEIM before taking over at Fullerton. The Orange Schoolmaster then moved on to UC at Berkoley... Irvin C. Chapman, the Placentia millionaire who headed the joint outfall sewer drive, was jubilant over the outcome of Monday's election. Chapman worked hard for its passage. Had he been re-elected to the Fullerton city council, he would now be the head of the league of municipalities... It didn't take Uncle Fudge—Floyd Perry—long to bag his deer. The oilworker got it on the opening day of the season. With one shot, too. REMEMBER — If you don't know, you can find out.
