Bridal Shower for Della Horn Burr
Mrs. Della Horn Burr was honored Sunday evening at a bridal shower given by Sue Howard at her home 1210 E. Oak st., Anaheim. The wedding was an event of late August.
Prizes were awarded during the evening to the bride's mother, Mrs. Ora Horn, and the bride's grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Brewer. The hostess was assisted in service.

No doubt many of Anaheim small fry spent a gloomy week with preparations for school life large on the horizon but little Paul Frank, Friday was red letter day. Not only is too young to be corralled classes but he was also celebrating his fifth birthday with a parade eight small guests invited to the fun.

Dinner Meeting Opens Altrusa Fall Program
Plans were made for an active fall agenda when the Anaheim Altrusa club met in regular session for the first time this season at a dinner meeting in the Elks club.
Marjorie Bundgard, first vice president who will serve as program chairman for the coming year, called attention to the International Affairs meeting to be held September 25 at the Elks club. Local organizations in the county will be invited to attend the meeting which is of vital importance to all members, Mrs. Bundgard said.
Hildred Ferrell was elected alternate to the San Diego conference to be held Sept. 29 and 30 and October 1. She will replace Katherine Wheeler. Approximately ten members of the Anaheim group are planning to attend the session which covers Altrusa clubs in California, Arizona and Nevada.
Helen Kaulbars presented a brief talk on the history of Altrusa and on what Altrusa means. She explained that the meaning of the word Altrusa is a sincere regard and consideration for others and added that the meaning was carried out in the organizations zealous efforts to help women and girls in need of assistance.
Invitation was received to attend Fullerton Charter dinner at Ruby's cafe on Sept. 28. Ruth Kraemer, national district president will attend the meeting. Mrs. Margaret Coons and Hildred Ferrell presented information on the Hallowe'en festival and discussed plans to sell orange juice during the event. The club will also select a queen candidate this year, Claire Larson presided over the meeting.

Hal Eastwood, Jr., 9942 Western ave., has just hung an attractive sign in front of his new home announcing he is doing photography there. He was formerly with the Kramer studio in Long Beach.
Mrs. Stella Reese, 10452 S. Stanton ave., received a letter from her step-son, Marion Allen Reese, saying he is a radio operator on a jeep in a replacement battalion in Korea. He has been there two months. He graduated from Poly high and then attended Seal College Military Bridal Shower for Della Horn Burr

Relatives of the bridegroom were Mrs. Ruth Burr, Mrs. Munden and the bride's aunt, Mrs. Schilling.
Unable to attend were Fannie Webb, Audrey Kruse and Joan Spencer.
Friends Honor Letha Sutton at Birthday Party
Mrs. Letha Sutton of 118 S. Los Angeles St., was honored at a delightful birthday luncheon Saturday by her daughter, Mrs. Fred Latham of Long Beach and Mrs. Carl Reeske of Anaheim, a close friend for many years.
Arrangements of late summer flowers were used as decorations in the home with a bouquet of yellow flowers in an etched glass bowl as table centerpiece and matching yellow candles on the tables.
Fruit salad, hot rolls, coffee and an attractively decorated birthday cake were served to guests including Mrs. Ralph Heeter of Anaheim, Mrs. Earl Twiggs, Mrs. Ida Mae Gilmore, Mrs. Rael Requaith all of Anaheim. Unable to attend were Mrs. Robert Allic of Redondo Beach, Mrs. Homer Hamilton of Hawthorne, Everett Ely and Pearl Rauger, both of Fullerton and Lela Bellamy of Anaheim.

Patio Supper Honors Dick Bruce
Vincent "Dick" Bruce, who retire this month from the Anaheim Fire Department after years service, was honored by members of his shift at a chowder dinner in the Rex Brush home at 307 E. Ellsworth st.
As a farewell gift his father workers presented Dick with leather traveling bag to be on his trip to the New England coast following his retirement.

Retired Teachers Meet at La Palma
"Early Schools of the Santa Valley" was the subject of an address presented by Dr. Merton Hill of Laguna Beach at the mingling of the Orange County Divisional California Retired Teacher Association in La Palma park.
Dr. Hill is making an interdisciplinary study of the early schools in range county and reported some amusing incidents relating to history. He told the association that the first school was established in San Juan Capistrano 1853. Mrs. Nancy De Shazo, 11572 S. Stanton is just one of three places of business in the county picked up in the past three weeks for operating without a license. To help solve her problem, her antique shop is really one of the show places of the county, the Stanton Chamber of Commerce has recommended to the Planning Dept. that Lee and Nancy Antiques be granted a use variance permit, with all display within the building and be allowed one sign. The shop is in an agricultural zone but on Highway 39 where business is desired.
Mr. and Mrs. Clay Williams, 7932 Second st., left Friday for a two week's vacation. They will hunt and fish with Mr. and Mrs. Charles O. Williams and their three children, Williams' younger brother, at Napa Vine, Washington. They will stop on their way at Seaside and pick up their two small grandchildren, Stephen and Michael, and take them along. The grandsons have been staying in Stanton but returned home to be on hand with their dad, Fred Williams, as a welcoming party when their mother returned from the Crippled Children's hospital in San Francisco, Aug. 20, where she had been confined for 11 months with infantile paralysis.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pruett, 7121 Monroe st., left last week for a two weeks vacation. It is more like a honeymoon. Pete's mother, Mrs. Grace Pruett from Orange, will reside at their home and care for their five attractive children. The Pruetts will motor to Arizona, New Mexico and Texas visiting relatives and friends.

County Symphony To Plan Concert
Orange County Symphony orchestra will hold first rehearsal September 19 in the music building of Newport Harbor High school, it was announced day by Clinton Swain, music director.
Despite uncertain conditions or orchestra is anticipating a promising fifth season with two soons added for the first time the history of the division.
Summer music will be repeated and a concerto will be added an early concert according to Swain.
The B. L. Blazers, 10682 S. Henson ave., have sold their turf ranch to Mr. and Mrs. Lawreel Smith and their two children from Bellflower. The Smiths will model the property into a chick ranch, in about three weeks. The Blazers will live at 114 W Stueckle, Anaheim.
Get Acquainted Day At Franklin School
Benjamin Franklin PTA under the leadership of Mrs. Arthur Korn as president, planned a get together on the opening day of school yesterday as an opportunity for the regular members to meet the new mothers for this year.
Large yellow tags with blue letters inscribed "P-TA Hostess" were designed by Mrs. Harold Ferguson, hospitality chairman and worn by Mrs. Melvin Hilgenfeld, Mrs. John Olson, Mrs. James Dilly, Mrs. Elmer Peter, Mrs. Forrest Simonton, and Mrs. Frances Elliott. The committee also presented red carnations to each teacher.
Approximately 150 mothers and small children were served refreshments by Mrs. John Kerns and committee, Mrs. Harold Fisher, Mrs. Robert Perryman, Mrs. Roy Dargatz, Mrs. W. J. Seapy, Mrs. Glenn Kirk and Mrs. Godfrey Herbel.
Mrs. Robert Perryman, art and decoration chairman, arranged the refreshment table with a bouquet of pink dahlias in a white bowl on a green and white cloth with matching green glass and napkins.
Refreshments were furnished by Mrs. Milton Pannier, Mrs. Elmer Peter, Mrs. Walter Taylor, Mrs. Floyd Stockwell, Mrs. Arthur Korn, Mrs. Forrest Simonton, Mrs. Robert Perryman, Mrs. J. W. Seapy and Mrs. Byron Dahl.

Local Church Group Enjoys Retreat.
The Westminster Youth Fellowship of the First Presbyterian church of Anaheim spent a three day retreat last week at Pacific Palisades. The major emphasis was on "There's fun in our Fellowship."
This was the first "Summer's End Camp" to be held and plans have been made to continue it as an annual event. The activities were centered around fun at the beach, planned recreation at the camp, and discussing plans of the coming church year.
The camp was under the direction of Mr. Harold E. Lannom, minister of music and director of youth activities of the local church. Also assisting Mr. Lannom were the Reverend Mr. and Mrs. Howard S. Congdon, Mrs. Lannom and Chad Boliek.
Those going to Pacific Palisades were: Gretchen Glover, Geri Glover, Ronnie Brown, Carol Roberts, Kevin Stanton, Genevieve Bradley, Janet Larson, Charles Bourne, Art Ihnen, Mary Lee Holiday, Bob Simon, Elizabeth Ann Betts, Dorothy Gosnell, Jewel Walker, Miriam Congdon, Yvonne Fitz, Darlene Fitz, Joe Critchfield, Phyllis Kirchmann, Barbara Simonton, Gail Huebert, Marlene Stewart, Don Switzler, Marilyn Winfrey, and Joan Ferguson.
