SIDELINERS—Ernie Beyer is right. The Bruins don't know if Frank (Kiko) Muhoz, the 25-year-old ex-paratrooper, will do them any good. Ulcers may keep him on the sidelines, but watch for him to shine with the Bruin baseball nine next spring... Ray (Gordo) Lamas would have been ANAHEIM's only major league college footballer if Uncle Sam'l hadn't spoken. Red Saunders actually groaned when he was told that the big, ANAHEIMER was shooting off September 5 with the National Guard ... Rue Bohannon is one of ANAHEIM’s leading seatcover tailors. He is an expert at fixing up hoss-less carriages, but on Sundays he likes to get out the hosses and roam the range.... His brother-in-law, Al Schenk, was really a horseman. He was a jockey. The late George Wolfe, Johnny Longdon, Al Shellhammer, Eddie Arcaro, the late Red Pollard had to work to beat him to the wire when he had a horse under him. He is working for an oil company now... Paula Doretti, the ANAHEIM dazzler, is looking forward to the Los Angeles county fair...
Descendants of State Figures Hold Centennial
SACRAMENTO (AP) —The descendants of two of California's historical figures met today and shook hands—a hundred years afterwards.
They are Miss Hallie Hensley, Marfa, Tex., and John Motheral, San Francisco.
The Texan is the great, great grand niece of Helen Crosby—who safeguarded to California the official papers which proclaimed the creation of the Golden State in 1850.
The San Franciscan is the great, great grandson of California's first governor, Peter Brunett—to whom Helen Crosby delivered the papers.
The two met at state fair ceremonies commemorating the admission of California to the union a century ago.
There is a little story behind the name of Hallie Hensley:
After President Millard Fillmore signed the California statehood bill on Sept. 9, 1850,the papers were dispatched west.Jonathan Hensley and John Bidwell were giventhe papers to deliver They tooka boatforthe Canal Zone, togoverlandandtake anotherboattogo north along coast toSanFrancisco—to breakthestatehoodnews.

SUCCESS—Pat Hall is a motion picture extra and Hollywood's most photographed girl. The beautiful La Habra lass has achieved world-wide success by overcoming handicap. Just four years ago she graduated from the North ANAHEIM (Fullerton t'you, suh) junior college and decided to make modeling her career... "I want to be a model," she told an amateur shutter-bug ... "So do a lot of other girls. Modeling is a tough packet." he told her. Patti wanted to go to New York to become a Powers Model. "Why?" the ANA HEIM picture snapper asked. "You have the best opportunities right here in California. If you want to be a model and work to achieve success, there is no better place in the whole wide world than your own back yard." The amateur shutterbug gave the gal a book on the career girls' career. He told her a few guys to contact and wished her luck... Before long he saw the picture of the gal on magazine covers, in advertisements, on bill boards and even on the motion picture screen. She had become a model... It has been written that he who works for success will achieve it. Patti proved that it can be done.
ANOTHER PAYROLL — With the establishment of another manufacturing enterprise another payroll has been added to ANA HEIM’s expanding economy. The Chamber of Commerce is to be congratulated on the way it is boosting ANA HEIM through bringing payrolls to town.
HISTORY—Everyone knows the role Madame Helena Modjeska played in the cultural development of ANA HEIM. The famous tragedienne came to ANA_HEIM in 1876 to establish an artists’ colony. This venture, however, was doomed to failure as the temperamental artist were too proud to till the soil as theMadAME wished. It was here IN ANAHEIM, however, that the famous Polish actress learned to speak English. She went on to win undying fame playing Shakespearian roles in the leadingtheatres throughout the United States, but she always returned to her beloved Orange county... Her son won international fame as a bridge builder....Her great-grandson,Ralph B.Modjeska, who took part in the dedication of the statue in theANAHEIM city park 18 years ago has now established his residence in Santa Ana after having been a set designer for Darrel F.Zanuck,Louis B.Mayer and Myron Selznick. He also helped to design Howard Hughes’ monstrous flying boat.....The quiet, soft-spoken architect likes the friendly atmosphere, peace and quiet of the rolling hills ofOrange county...
