C., was killed yesterday at Del Mar racetrack, where he started his riding career and ended it—all in less than a year. Glisson, younger brother of national riding champion Gordon Glisson, was fatally injured in the fourth race on the same track where he rode his first winner last August 19. He was aboard Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carva's Broker yesterday when the horse snapped his left foreleg and fell. John was hurled to the infield, his head apparently striking the rail. He died of a fracture of the skull and a fractured cervical vertebra in the neck. His brother Gordon was riding C. H. Jones and sons' Winsir in the same race. Last year Johnny rode 44 winners, 18 seconds and 22 thirds on 215 mounts. He had ridden 35 winners this year, including several at Hollywood Park and two at the young Del Mar meeting. Johnny's first riding experience came several years ago on a mule on the family farm near Winnsboro. His death was the first jocky fatality in the 11-year racing history of Del Mar. The newest and latest in agricultural equipment will be exhibited at the Orange County Fair, August 16-20. Eagles Rate Nod in Fracas With College Stars Tonight CHICAGO (AP)—The Philadelphia Eagles, National Football League champions for the last two years, and the College All-Stars, representing the nation's top college players, meet in Soldier Field tonight in the season's first major grid game. The powerful Eagles, 38-0 winners over last year's group of All-Stars, were 14½ point favorites over this year's collegians in the 17th annual game between the professional champions and All-Stars. The game will be broadcast and televised. This year's All-Star unit is big in the line physically and strong in line-backing. The backs are fast and the whole squad has balance. The Eagles last year not only tore up the All-Stars, but also tore through the National Football League, with Steve Van Buren operating behind an extremely fast and rugged line. Emil Sitko, Notre Dame's 1949 fullback, may be the only All-Star kept out of the game. Sitko has not recovered from a pulled muscle. The Eagles ripped through the National League season last year.
