Most homemakers change sheets on the beds once a week. Some prefer to use two clean sheets per bed, but it is an accepted practice to turn the sheet over and tuck it around the mattress as a bottom shirt and then to use a fresh shirt for the second one. By using latter method, one clean shirt per bed per week is required.
As a guide, household experts recommend that you have on six sheets per bed.
In buying sheets, it never should always be wide and enough to tuck well under mattress on all four sides.
Tugging and pulling that is necessary to make a small sheet bed will wear the sheet out quickly. When used as a top sheet there should be enough of it to deep turnover to protect blanket.
Inspect the label on the sheet you are planning to buy. You see "torn size" on the best labels. This means the sheet torn to size, not cut to size; sururing that it will be a "square" sheet.
The label will tell you too. For a single bed, sheets usually come 63 inches wide by 90 or 108 inches long. For a two-three-quarter bed, 72 by 90 or 108 inches long. Double sizes are 81 or 90 inches wide; 90, 99 or 108 inches long; wiser to get the 108 inch length and where there is a choice widths at the same price; larger of the two.

sleeping on percale. The soft-assilk quality makes percale sheets the luxury sheets and so they are higher in price.
Muslin sheets are usually a bit bulkier and coarser to the touch, but they will withstand hard wear and stand up well through countless launderings.
In any sheet, the closer the weave, the better the fabric. Look for wide hems too as this usually indicates quality. Rub the sheet between your fingers. If it gives off a powdery substance, it has been sized and after washing would be weak and limp.
Now is as good a time as any to sort over your torn sheets. I find that double sheets that are worn in the middle can be salvaged nicely for the children's beds. Cut out the worn part and turn the sheet so what was previously the two outer edges can be stitched together making a seam down the middle of the sheet.

FAIR CHANCE
Parents Can't Shield Children From All Life's Difficulties
DEAR MISS DIX: Is it fair to bring children into the world when everything is so uncertain? Some people, through no fault of their own have such unhappy lives. Is it worth while having children from the parents' standpoint?
MRS. L. N.
ANSWER: It is certainly as serious a matter to give life as it is to take it, and men and women should consider long and thoughtfully what sort of chance they are giving a child before they bring it into the world. Certainly no one has the right to give a child such a rotten deal as to handicap it with the stigma of illegitimacy, or to doom it to a lifetime of suffering by inflicting on it hereditary diseases.
But if people refrained from having children until they could assure them a perfectly safe and prosperous journey through life there would never be another baby born, because there has never been a safe world and there will never be one.
Life Always an Adventure
Always, and to every child, life will be an adventure, full of dangers and difficulties through which he must fight his way, and no provisions of the parents can safe-
