For Results, Quick A Page 7 Anaheim Gazette; Wednesday, August 2, 1950 "Dos-A-Dos and Promenade" Tuesday night is square dance night on the City Park Courts these balmy summer evenings. And Anaheimers turn out in full force to take advantage of the Recreation Department sponsored activity. Department figures indicate that weekly crowds run as high as 400; Cliff Curtis and his boys provide appropriate music for the sessions. Cliff doubles as a caller and an instructor. Enthusiasts who make use of the Tuesday sessions in conjunction with Square Dance Instruction Book issued by the Recreation Department are attaining no small amount of proficiency, according to reports. HERE'S MUSIC—Cliff Curtis calls the steps at right while Charles Black at the piano and Earl Wilson with the violin back him up musically. HERE'S HOW Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Curtis demonstrate square dance routines for eager learners at City Park square dance sessions on Tuesday nights. Students here are, up the left side, Mrs. James Forbes, Mrs. Claude Barnett and Mrs. Walter Davenport; and down the right side, husbands Forbes. HERE'S SOME OF THE CROWD—Square dancers varying in experience from the neophyte to the accomplished cut all kinds of mean figures on the City Park Courts as they go through the steps explained and demonstrated by Cliff Curtis. Summer evening sociability is the keynote at the regular Tuesday sessions sponsored by the City Recreation Department. Marino Annexes Flyweight Title HONOLULU (AP)—Dada Marino, an old man of 34 in the ring, today owns the world flyweight title that had eluded him for years. The Hawaiian-born Filipino won a close put unanimous decision last night over London's Terry Allen in 15 bruising rounds. Marino weighed 112 pounds, Allen 111½. "The first punch he hit me with, I knew I could win," Marino said in his dressing room. He is the first American citizen in 20 years to win the flyweight crown. There were no knockdowns but both fighters threw leather at a rugged pace. Marino exploded powerful lefts to Allen's head time and again. He opened a cut over Allen's left eye in the second round and kept the blood flowing. The Britisher, fighting desperately to hold his title, rocked Marino in a sharp seventh round exchange. Marino too began bleeding over the left eye and Allen went after him with sharp left and rights. Allen's best rounds were the fourth, 12th and 13th. In the latter he forced Marino backwards with sharp left hooks. Both shot the works in the last two rounds. When the final bell sounded, they were standing toe-to-toe, their fists flying like windmills. "I got no excuse—the best man..." Marino in a sharp seventh round exchange. RAMS TRIM THREE REDLANDS (P)—The Los Angeles Rams are trimming their squad early. Pink slips were handed yesterday to Joe Joiner, Austin College; Ed Wycliffe, West Virginia State, and Tom Winbigler, College of Idaho. Homemaker Forum (Continued from Page 3) that he consult the bulletin board at the library where a description of positions open among state personnel is listed as is the time set for examinations for these positions. Miss J. Elizabeth Calnon, the gracious lady who presides at the library, tells me that 50 per cent of Colonists use the library. This is a good percentage as libraries go—but how about that other 50 per cent? It costs nothing to join the library. Merely sign a library card if you are a property owner in Anaheim. If you are not, have it signed by someone you know who is a property owner. Library hours on most days are from 9 in the morning until 9 in the evening.
