Even my children have held second place. Then, without warning, I was plunged into hell by finding out that he had been unfaithful to me with my dearest friend. He blames her—for which I despise him—and is frantic at the thought of breaking up our home. I submit to his caresses because I neither hate nor love him and I have remained the same efficient housekeeper. The question is shall I stay or go? I could support myself easily, but there are the children, I have taught them that he is a knight, a pattern for them, so if I took them away they would lose not only his support but an ideal, for he has been a wonderful father to them and he loves them sincerely. Would it be wiser to remain with him and forget NEW EQUIPMENT—Mrs. Agnes Criss, owner of Criss Business College, prepares table and new electric typewriter for student instruction. The business college celebrates its first anniversary tomorrow. Rapid Strides Mark Growth Of Local Business College Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of the Criss Business College, 512 E. Center st. It provides occasion to step back and guage a success story in the making. Originated and directed by owner Mrs. Agnes Francis Criss, the school has grown from a home-contained, modest school of business instruction to its present status of a small scale college, business complete in every detail and capable of furnishing instruction for any business background requirement. Actually the college is still home contained. The difference, in a year is addition to the home, with resultant sunlit class rooms featuring the latest in teaching equipment. Though standard diploma courses of a semester's duration are available, the school has gained its reputation from special short courses which enable students to get a particular subject they need in a hurry. Along with the speedy instruction goes individual attention on the part of instructor, another special feature of the Criss school. The standard diploma courses are arranged in accordance with the requirements set by the National Council of Business Schools. Curriculum at the college is all-inclusive, running the entire gamut of secretarial, stenographic and accounting work. Higher accounting, business law, business administration and office management are also available. As instructor, Mrs. Criss brings a total of 25 years of teaching and experience. County Urged To Go Easy on Tax Increases County government was urged to vote "hold the line" against tax increases in a communication from the tax committee of Orange County Farm Bureau Tuesday. The Farm Bureau group, headed by Herbert Warren, Yorba Linda, particularly requested that the proposal for special road taxes this year be dropped and levies for a building fund be abandoned for the present, although it does not oppose the plan for new county buildings. Any funds applied to such purpose should be drawn from the county's "unnecessarily large" unappropriated reserve fund, said the committee. The communication noted that state and federal funds would supply two-thirds of the money required for a new county health center building, as first unit of the new court house group. The supervisors were urged also to give attention to reduction of the general budget. Economic situation of the farmers, who pay a large portion of county taxes, it was pointed out, and who have had a poor citrus market for several years, was called to the attention of the board as a need for tax curbs. I submit to his caresses because I neither hate nor love him and I have remained the same efficient housekeeper. The question is shall I stay or go? I could support myself easily, but there are the children. I have taught them that he is a knight, a pattern for them, so if I took them away they would lose not only his support but an ideal, for he has been a wonderful father to them and he loves them sincerely. Would it be wiser to remain with him and forget my desire for happiness with a man I love or make myself content with what I have and assure the children of a normal home life? They know nothing of my tragedy. TROUBLED ANSWER: In a case like yours I do not think there can be any question of its being the mother's duty to sacrifice herself to her children. I believe that the man and woman who take upon themselves the responsibility of foisting life upon a child are bound by every code of honor to put him before themselves and do everything possible for his welfare, even though it involves their giving up their happiness for him. CONSIDER HARMFUL EFFECTS Of the disastrous effects of a broken home upon children it is not necessary to speak here. It takes away their sense of security. It upsets all their values. It confuses all of their relationships. It blights their lives in every way. So the proposition boils down to this: Your children have a right to grow up in the sunshine in which alone they can flower into beautiful man and womanhood. They have a right to live in a peaceful atmosphere. Have you the courage to make this sort of home for them under adverse conditions? And, after all, I think you will be happier in keeping your home together than you will be in leaving it. For the most important thing in the world to you is not your own happiness but that of your children, and that will be best secured by your making no change in their lives. 41 California Cities Double Size in Decade SAN FRANCISCO (P)—California has 41 cities of over 2500 population that have more than doubled in size since 1940. Five of these have quadrupled and four tripled. In addition there are five cities that were not listed in the census 10 years ago. Criss brings a total of 25 years of teaching and practical working experience to her students. She taught business courses in high schools and junior colleges throughout this area for half of that time. During the remaining period she was engaged in actual application of her teaching knowledge in business. Tomorrow's anniversary celebration will provide opportunity to observe the results of a year's successful operation. The school rooms will be open from 8 to 5. New equipment, including latest in business machines will be on display and will be demonstrated by attendant student students. Public is welcome. $419,793 LOSS TO COUNTY OR SAVING TO TAXPAYER? YOU'LL HAVE TO DECIDE! SACRAMENTO (WNS) — Loss of $50,000,000 annual revenue to counties of California was predicted today by the County Supervisors association if Proposition No. 1 on the November ballot is voted into the state Constitution. The proposition provides for the exemption of all personal property from taxation. Orange county, the association said, would lose a total of $419,-793 annual revenue. “This figure,” according to the association’s statement, “is exclusive of losses to cities, school districts and special districts. It is estimated that the Missouri River Valley contains a quarter of U.S. farm lands. HERE'S A CHANCE FOR HAYES TO DRY OUT LONG BEACH — George B. Hayes likes to talk with animals, he says. And police didn’t object when Hayes harangued a burro yesterday at a zoo here. But when Hayes suddenly nodded and tipped a wine bottle into the burro’s mouth, an officer moved in. Hayes, booked for intoxication, protested: “That jackass asked me for a drink, so I gave it to him. He said he just got in from the desert and he was terribly, terribly dry.” EL TORO BOOM A war-borne housing boom is due to hit the Marine Air Station at El Toro soon. The station public works officer said today construction of 571 new housing units has been okayed by the Navy. The project, to be completed in about one year, includes 378 units for enlisted men and 193 for officers. The dwellings will be located on land now owned by the Irvine corp., immediately east of the air station. Most existing quarters are of the quonset hut type. In no other June in history were more Californians employed than during last month. The total, said the State Employment department, was 4,112,000—or 6,000 more than the previous high established in June 1948. 41 California Cities Double Size in Decade SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—California has 41 cities of over 2500 population that have more than doubled in size since 1940. Belmont, Menlo Park, Richmond, San Carlos and West Covina are four times as large as in 1940. Benicia, Chula Vista, El Cajon and Suanville are three times as large. The others that have more than doubled are: Antioch, Arcadia, Azusa, Burbank, Claremont, Compton, Culver City, Davis, El Cerrito, El Segundo, Fairfield, Gardena, Hayward, Indo, La Mesa, Lynwood, Manhattan Beach, Montebello, Monterey Park, National City, Newport Beach, Oceanside, Oxnard, Palm Springs, Redwood City, San Mateo, Seal Beach, South San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Torrance, Tracy and Woodlake. Head coach Curly Lambeau announced the signing of Stan Flowers, lanky pass receiving end, from the University of Redlands, Calif. Stanton Items Noticeable in the fourth annual Fiesta Parade sponsored by the Blessed Sacrament church Sunday afternoon, were two Stantonites, Miss Dorothy Wolfert, daughter of A. L. Wolfert of 7122 E. Ball rd., gracefully mounted on a quarter- horse belonging to their neighbor, E. M. Clanton. Clanton, who rode his Morgan mare with Dorothy. Wolfert, a poultry raiser, and his daughter are well known in the community. Dorothy is a first grade teacher and has been transferred to the Orange school for the coming year. She entered in the women's plain Western division in the horse show Sunday morning. According to Father Ross, general chairman, the parade was viewed by 18,000. It has become one of the most outstanding in the southland. Father Joseph Murrin, originator of the fiesta parade four years ago and popularly known as the "Cowboy Priest," acted as co-marshal and was dressed as a cowboy in a fashionable tan and brown outfit. He came here from St. Columban's church in Nebraska to take part. The Blessed Sacrament church is the mother church to the two Catholic churches in Stanton, the Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Fathers Ross and Murrin have contributed a great deal to the community growth of the township. The Sunshine and Shower club met for luncheon, Thursday at 1:30, at the home of Mrs. Frances Yater, 8201 Starr st. The August meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Cynthia Briggs, 9091 E. Winston rd. Enjoying the delicious chicken salad and cakes in the Yater's artistic home, which was recently remodeled, were Mrs. Ruth Bennett, Mary Hudson, Marjorie McBratney, Cynthia Briggs, Verna Clark and Ethel Freeborn from Stanton and Sada Larson from Los Alamitos.* Special attention was paid Mrs. Bertha Maloney, a member of the group for almost 20 years, in honor of her 80th birthday.
