Ted Remains on Sox Active List
BOSTON (P)—Encouraged by the immediate medical reports of Ted Williams' splintered elbow surgery, General Manager Joe Cronin today said the Boston Red Sox' $125,000-a-year salaried slugger would continue on the club's active player list.
"I don't want to put Ted on the sidelines officially, until such action appears absolutely necessary," Cronin explained.
If Williams was declared disabled by his club, it could obtain a replacement for him and still remain inside the major league's 25-player limit.
He suffered the injury making an against the wall catch in the first inning of Tuesday's all-star game in Chicago.

New Grid Coach Visits Anaheim
Clare Van Hoorebeke, newly appointed varsity grid coach at AUHS, arrived in Anaheim yesterday for a preliminary observation of his new pigskin post and its environs.
Main objectives on Van Hoorebeke's list were renewal of acquaintance with AUHS director of Boys Athletics, Dick Glover, handshakes with some of his prospective grid material and the search for a place to hang his and his family's hats. Van Hoorebeke said he expects to move to Anaheim late next month.
A handful of Colonists grid aspirants were present to meet and talk shop with their new mentor yesterday. Along with members of the local press, they heard the North Phoenix high school coach tell of his hopes to install Tformation football at Anaheim high school when grid goings-on commence next September.
Under Glover, who resigned the head coach's job in May, Colonists operated on a single wing diet.
Van Hoorebeke said he will return to Phoenix this weekend to carry out phases of that city's summer recreation program which he is directing.
