Colonist History Passes In Review with Printing Of Original Translations As expenses for the colony mounted, discontent among the shareholders grew. By June 1, 1859, total assessments on each share for 20 acres in the colony tract were $1115. The land had cost $2.50 per acre, or $50 for 20 acres to which each was entitled. Continually Manager Hansen's quarterly estimates on the cost of the work were too low. When the minutes for the first time recorded the decision of the colonists to hold a dance and entertainment, they invited Hansen to be present. Later, in a letter, to their manager, they asked him to be sure and come up for an interview, and to be sure to bring his map with him, because with the "feeling of doubt and mistrust existing amongst the stockholders." SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. May 27, 1859. Manager Hansen's report read and laid on table for discussion. Decided to reconsider motion of May 10 not to honor any further warrants drawn on San Francisco. Decided to reconsider motion of May 10 not to honor any further warrants drawn on San Francisco. Treasurer instructed to write Mr. Hansen that the resolution of May 10 was adopted because Mr. Hansen gave us no notice whatever of such expenditures and their purpose. The board has frequently requested Mr. Hansen to send us with every steamer, or at least once a month, a few lines, or some report of his work for the benefit of the stockholders. Regarding the assessments Mr. Hansen is in error, and secretary was instructed to put him right. By June 1 each share will have paid $1115.00, which is $20.00 per share more than Mr. Hansen reported in his last quarterly statement. The directors have always allowed Mr. Hansen, through assessments, more money than he called for in his quarterly budget in view of the expenses running over, and when Mrs. Hansen suggested raising the capital stock to $55,000.00 they made it $60,000.00, and they do not like, or deserve his criticism. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. JULY 16, 1859 Secretary instructed to write Mr. Hansen and have him present for the extra stockholders meeting, April 4 and estimate, as accurately as possible, the amount of money necessary until end of his contract. May 1, 1860. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. JULY 27, 1859 A letter just received from Manager Hansen asking for $3,-000.00 more after August 1 will be referred to stockholders meeting of August 1 as the directors did not wish to act on the matter. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. AUGUST 8, 1859 A vote was taken on the proposition of increasing the capital stock to $80,000.00. In hot weather, a food market can be the cooks' best friend I proved that to myself at the Northgate Market this morning. As I came out of the market, notice of a sale on the opposite side of the street caught my eye. It turned out to be at the Junior Renzvous Children's Shop which is holding a storewide clearance sale. This store which is operated by Mrs. James Kilduff is unique in that one half caters to high school and college girls in sizes of 9 to 15 and 10 to 16, while the other half of the store is especially for infants and younger girls and boys. Girls sizes run up to 12 years and boys up to six years of age may be fitted. The large stock of merchandise on sale includes summer formals, beach wear, and underthings for teenagers as well as baby shower items, tiny sun suits, frilly dresses little larger than a postage stamp and sturdy shorts and tee shirts for the sand pile set. Mrs. Kilduff has excellent taste and you will be delighted with her wonderful merchandise. Her summer sale will continue until July 15th—first come, first served. The Orange County Fair is to be held this year from August 16th thru the 20th. Since entries must be listed in the fair office by August first, it is not a bit too soon to be deciding just what items you are going to enter. There is no entry fee in the home department, as you probably know, but did you know that valuable cash prizes are offered in each of the many sections? If you use C and H sugar in preparing your entries in the jelly division, the preserving division and the canned fruits division, you will be eligible for a 100 pound sack of C and H sugar that is to be awarded was: In Favor: Cris Mossemann, 1 share; Rud Leudke, 2; Phil.
