Three Meetings Set for Week By Farm Bureau
Word has been received at Orange county Farm Bureau offices of three meetings of special interest to turkey growers, citrus and avocado orchardists, all during next week.
First will be a meeting of turkey growers on Tuesday, the 11th, at noon at the south grounds of Ganesha park, Pomona, with each one bringing his own lunch. Norris Miller will discuss California Poultry Improvement Plan, Fred Huntsinger will give a report of the Western Poultry Congress held at San Diego, and L. D. Sanborn will show slides on labor saving devices. Each is asked to bring his own inventions of labor-saving devices and a special prize will be awarded for the best.
The meeting is sponsored by the Los Angeles county Farm Bureau.
Citrus growers who represent their counties on the citrus section of the state Farm Bureau will form the nucleus of a meeting which will be held in conference room No. 202 of the California Fruit Growers Exchange, 707 W. 5th st., Los Angeles on Thursday, July 13, at 10 a.m. The meeting will continue into the afternoon and will include a discussion on "Foreign Citrus Production and Markets," by Henry Burke, Office of Agricultural Relations, USDA. On Saturday, July 14 a tour of the J. N. T near Santa Paula, Venice will be sponsored by section of the state F. On this tour the Thill show old bearing orchards, varieties and verticillium.

Santa Ana Reserves Receive New Trophy
Officers and enlisted men of the U. S. Naval Reserve Training center, Santa Ana, have received word from the Commandant's office, Eleventh Naval district, San Diego, of the winning of the Commandant's general excellency trophy for Training Centers for the fiscal year 1950.
In a special communique from the office of Rear Admiral W. D. Baker, Commandant of the Eleventh Naval District, the unit was given a score of 95 pointns during the recent annual inspection carried out by Captain Alexander MacIntyre, USN, senior officer of the District Director of Naval Reserve, San Diego.
Facilities and men of the Orange county unit located on the site of the former blimp base are under the direction of Lt. Harlow C. Bell, USNR.
