Mrs. C. I. Andrews At Training Center
Mrs. C. I. Andrews, 311 E. Broadway, Anaheim, is attending the Methodist Youth Caravan Training Center in Stockton, preparing for voluntary service in local churches during the next seven weeks.
Experienced in the direction of Christian youth work, Mrs. Andrews is one of 70 adult counselors who will work with 280 college young people as members of Caravan teams this summer. Caravanners will serve a total of 500 churches in the United States, Cuba, and Hawaii this season.
Composed of four young people and one adult counselor, each caravan team is especially trained to give leadership and direction to the development of a youth program fulfilling the ideals and purposes of the Methodist Youth Fellowship in each local church. Caravanners assist local youth in planning programs of evangelism, world friendship, and community service. They give suggestions for worship services, lead informal study groups, direct recreation, help initiate work projects, and interpret the youth program of the church to civic leaders.
Sponsored by staff members of the Methodist Board of Education, Nashville, Tenn., the five training centers are located at William Penn College, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Lake Junaluska, N.C.; McMurray College, Abilene, Texas; Lycoming College, Williamsport, Penn., and College of the Pacific, Stockton, California.
Now in its 12th year, the Methodist Caravan program has reached more than a million people in over 13,000 churches across the nation and overseas.

WIDOWED MOTHER
Best Plan to Help Her
Maintain Own Home
Dear Dorothy Dix: My father and mother had been married a long time. A month ago he died. What happiness can she, a woman starting her sixties, have without the man she loved? What pleasure out of life can a woman get who has not been trained for some absorbing profession and who has only been a housewife and mother and enjoyed that and the success of making countless friends? My mother is only partially independent. She is coming to live with me and that moves her a long distance from her old home and friends and leaves her nothing to do to fill in the time. Must all of her future life be empty and meaningless and miserable?

The Stanton girls on vacation at school are really adding a creative touch to the near-by messes. Jeanette Allen, 10662
Chestnut st., and Doris Grivey, 10501 E. Cerritos, are working at Knott's Berry Farm. Janice Pullman, 10881, is reporting daily to the Bigler pharmacy in Anaheim. Both Jeanette and Janice were in the Stanton Chamber of Commerce beauty parade last Wednesday.
Mrs. Edwin Leep, Mrs. Joe Huss and Mrs. Veva Gorman, sisters, have put their heads together and decided to make another try at a family party. They had a picnic Sunday at the Anaheim Park. This time a good time was had by all.
The Edwin Leep's and their daughter Judy and son Larry, and Mr. Leep's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Leep, 217 S. Clementine, Anaheim; the Joe Huss's, 825 N. Sabina and Mrs. Veva Gorman who resides with the Huss's since the death of her husband; and the two Huss sons Alfred and Melvin and their families from Hanson Manor got together last Thursday night for a dinner party at the Melvin Huss residence. The party was interrupted almost before it started when word came that the Joe Huss home was on fire.
Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Cole, 8361 East Cerritos ave., were very sad when they learned that in the heavy fog last New Year's eve, the Coles were badly hurt in an auto accident. It turned out that Mr. Cole would be all right but Mrs. Cole who already had two injured legs had them injured again so seriously she would never walk again.
After doing all they could for her in the Long Beach Naval hospital the doctors sent her home with a nurse. Mrs. Cole had other ideas about her future. She started right in trying to take care of herself. She did so well that last Saturday Mr. Cole obtained a walker with a switch attachment. She insisted on cooking a complete dinner and to date has even walked to the phone and called some of her friends much to their amazement. She frankly warns them that they will next see her without the walker.
Mrs. Cole joined the Handicapped Club in Long Beach that was started by Allen Phelps on his radio program. She is very earnest about this project and finds the association of other unfortunate members to be very stimulating, and proudly announces they have raised a fund of $7000 toward building their own clubhouse by
