CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
LESSON THEME 'GOD'
"Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy." This verse from the Psalms will be the Golden Text of the Sunday Bible Lesson on "God" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston.
The Lesson-Sermon includes this declaration of Paul as given in his letter to the Ephesians: "There is one body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."
In the Christian Science textbook "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Marv Baker Eddy writes. "'Thou shalt have no other gods before me' (Exodus xx. 3.) The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science. It incultulates the triunity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God, eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind."

Ed Power of Anaheim had the privilege of introducing the Honorable Goodwin J. Knight, acting governor of California, who was accompanied by Mrs. Knight. Power and Knight have been friends for 30 years. Knight departed from the conventional speech prepared for him and read a proclamation from Governor Earl Warren, who is in the East, asking all the people of California to stand ready to assist the president of the United States, in the present international crisis, stating that today, history is being made and by her action, the United State's will command the respect of the entire world in the future, for her conduct. Also, that with God-fearing, rugged, experienced man like Capt Kernodle and his staff at the helm Americans can feel safe, proud and confident of their future. It is a treat to hear out the Lt. Governor when he speaks on Americanism, of which he is a living, vital example.
The Santa Ana Chamber was given a beautiful set of bronze horse heads for book-ends. They had too many members present to count so the other groups gave them the prize willingly.
John K. Hislop, director of public relations for the Southern district of the State Chambers of Commerce, who has an office in Los Angeles, was a special guest.
The Balladeers, a male octtette directed by G. Willard Basset with Ruth Armstrong as accompanist and arranger, performed. They sang for 30 minutes and could have gone on and on had the program allowed. Their best received number was a take off on Bill Gallienne, who loves to wear loud cowboy clothes.
In answer to a request made by the Stanton Chamber of Commerce to the State Road Highway office in Los Angeles some months ago, pedestrian cross walks are being painted at all intersections in the business district on Highway 39.

Meet One of Anaheim’s Most Talented Daughters,
Nationally Known Ballerina Lois Ellyn Smith
A rising star in the world of stage, Lois Ellyn Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. K. M. Smith of 711 S. Dickle st., perhaps qualifies as the city of Anaheim's best bet for top-flight star and international renown. A ballerina with professional experience among the nation's leading ballet companies and pupil of the nation's foremost choreographers, Miss Smith presently is sitting in Anaheim prior to return to the theatre. In the immediate future she probably will join either Madame Mia Slavska's group in Hollywood or the New York City ballet.
Born in Anaheim, Miss Smith graduated from Anaheim high school in 1942. Locally she disguised herself as a pianist, playing a number of recitals and performances here. A pianist since she was nine, Lois took up dancing only as a sideline, training with Mrs. Leonore Martin.
After attending UCLA for one semester, she decided upon a dance career—because, as she says, with a smile, "when I made a strong move at the piano every day knew it immediately."
It obviously proved a wise choice.

"Big Break" in 1944
She immediately enrolled in the pool of Madame Nijinska, sister of the famed dancer, Vaslov Nisaka. After rigorous training, which included occasional motion picture work, Miss Smith got her big break" in 1944 when she is given an opportunity to dance at the "Ballet International" in New York, for which Madame Nijinska had been named artistic director. Backed and managed by Carquis de Cuevas, the show conquered successfully on the New York stage for the remainder of the season.
After returning to Hollywood, Miss Smith enrolled for study under Mia Slavenska, with the ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in Los Angeles. As a protege of Madame Nijinska, she then was given a spot in the famed instructor's own ballet Variante," a Columbia concert group, which tours throughout North America.
Starting as a second ballerina, Miss Smith eventually took lead roles in "Capella" and "Nutcracker Suite" with the group. Mexico City, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and many southern cities were on the group's itinerary. Her stage name "Lois Ellyn."
One Night Stands
Well received everywhere, the dupe traveled by bus, often played a series of one night stands. The tour continued throughout 1947-48 and was duplicated in 1948-49 except according to Miss Smith, that "the bus broke down are often."
Returning to Hollwood again, Miss Smith quickly found herself back in New York after George Lanchine, leading New York Ballet choreographer picked out of a rehearsal group one day at Miss Slavenska's studio. Starting rehearsals in September Anaheim High and Bonnie will return in the fall as a senior.
Billy Quaid, seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Quaid, 52 Brady st., Hanson Manor, turned Sunday from a week's vacation spent with his great-grants; the Misses Aurelia M. and Vel Spengler, 1702 Orange ave., Santa Ana. The auctions are Mrs. Said's mother's sisters.
Miss Jewel left from the Quads go to Medford, Oregon, to visit is in the lower two-thirds group in priority.
