For Results, Quick A Page 7 Anaheim Gazette, Tuesday, June 27, 1950 Talent Selected For Heidt Show Winners of the Horace Heidt auditions, held Thursday and Friday evenings at the Corona del Mar grammar school auditorium, were announced by Mrs. Earl Stanley, president of the Zonta club of Newport Harbor. The Zonta club is sponsoring next Sunday's coast-to-coast broadcast of the Horace Heidt Youth Opportunity Show, plus a two and a half hour revue of Philip Morris Stars, for the benefit of the Hoag Memorial hospital, Presbyterian. It will take place at the Rendezvous ballroom in Balboa at 6:30 p.m. next Sunday, July 2. Chosen to audition for Mr. Heidt were Adriane Wager, autoharpist, of Corona del Mar, Vina Mae Harmer, accordionist, of Santa Ana, Stephen Hope, ukulele-singer, of Corona del Mar, Norman Stingley, baritone, of Santa Ana and Ron Whitson of Balboa Island. Mr. Heidt will determine which of these young artists will appear on the coast-to-coast broadcast, the others to appear on the show to follow the broadcast. Pacific Electric Sees Half Hour Saved on Bus Line The Pacific Electric Railway co. stated today the express bus service which replaces its rail service Los Angeles Man Dies in Anaheim Private services were conducted at Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel for Edward S. Burdick, 59, who was stricken with a heart attack Saturday in Anaheim while en route to his home in Los Angeles. Mr. Burdick collapsed in front of Foster’s Freeze shop, 735 N. Los Angeles. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Anaheim Community Hospital. Born in Clinton, Iowa, Mr. Burdick was a resident of Los Angeles for 25 years. He was employed by the Los Angeles City Parks and Recreation department. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evelyn E. Burdick; one son, Edward S. Burdick, Jr., Santa Monica; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Mazer, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Cecily Atwell, Los Angeles, and six grandchildren. Mr. Burdick was a member of the Los Angeles City Hall Post of the American Legion. Interment will take place at Fairhaven Cemetery. Three County School Districts Eligible At least three Orange county school districts are among 110 California school districts tentatively slated to share in the first major division of the $250,000,000 in school bonds approved by voters last year. Stock Market Checks Decline NEW YORK (UP) — The Stock Market finally touched bottom this afternoon after a two-day plunge. Today’s nose dive started immediately after President Truman outlined an aggressive aid-to-Asia program. Losses ranged to around $5 a share, and in a few cases more, before a stand was made. Declines were cut sharply and a few issues advanced. Selling orders swept into the Exchange in a roaring tide. From around noon until the close of the market, the high-speed ticker tape could not keep up with reporting transactions on the trading floor. The delay amounted to 27 minutes at one time. The Exchange was forced to resort to “flashing” quotations direct from the floor to give a quick view of market action. Sales approached 5,000,000 shares. The plunge followed a morning rally which lifted favorites as much as $3 a share at one time. The rally represented a rebound from violent selling Monday which gave the market one of the biggest overall losses in 20 years. Actually, there's $50,000,000 immediately available for allocation. Only that amount of bonds have been sold. The latest tally shows applications totalling $102,000,000 have been received.
