PROSPECTIVE STEPFATHER
Should Man Wed Widow Whose Children He Dislikes?
Dear Dorothy Dix: I am in love with a widow who has two girls, one 12 and the other 15. They are under very poor control and do just as they please. I just simply can't stand the way they act, though I don't say anything. But if I married their mother I would have to change from that and am afraid that it would cause her and me to get along badly. I feel can't give the mother up, but I can't endure the kids. Please give me your advice.
M. R. H. A.
Answer: You certainly have a prophetic soul when it worms you that you will have trouble with the mother the minute you begin try to control her undisciplined children.
Don't deceive yourself into thinking that if you marry this woman with her half-grown girls, she will side with you and hold up your hands when you try to discipline them. She won't. She will go over to the enemy's camp every time and align herself with the children. In practically every family it is mother and the girls against father, even when it is their own father, and what happens to a stepfather when he faces that consolidated opposition is too horrible to think of.
Being a stepfather is the toughest job that any man ever tackles.
The bride was clad in a white minidress gown with net yoke, and pearl trim and train. She is a three strand pearl necklace, the gift of the groom, and carried a bouquet of white roses in baby's breath with an orchid fragrance in its center. The bride a graduate of Parker High School in Chicago, has been employed as a telephone operator. The groom, graduate of Gardenove high school, is a sheet metal worker. The couple met while the bride was visiting an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gione, Garden Grove.
Assisting at the reception were Betlyn Rogers and Darleen Beatty, and Hilda Davids. The ceremony was attended by about 40 guests immediately following the ceremony, the couple left for Yosemite National Park for a week's honey-boon. Upon their return they will take their home on Camille st. Santa Ana.

Behind the scenes at these festive occasions are many unsung heroines, the homemakers among us who give so generously of their time and talents to make graduation a time to long remember.
Do you know Mrs. Merton Landweer of 13931 Country Lane, Walnut Acres? She is the busy young mother of four grade school children. As tea chairman at Katella school, she had charge of the reception for the graduating class. If you were among the 200 guests who attended the reception last Friday night, you know how beautiful the tea table looked.
The class colors of pink and white were the keynote of the decorating scheme. Everyone immediately recognized the gorgeous floral centerpiece on the tea table as the work of Mrs. Raymond Terry of 12361 E. Katella ave. She is a homemaker who has a deep interest in flowers and is truly an artist when it comes to arranging them.
There were artists in the kitchen too. Mrs. Orville Halverson, president of Katella Parent-Teacher Association, and Mrs. Hubert Howell, last year's tea chairman, assisted Mrs. Landweer by decorating the cake. The cake was Van de Kamp's delicious golden layer with pineapple filling to which these artistic ladies added pink and white roses with green leaves. Both Mrs. Halverson and Mrs. Howell, attended the cake decorating classes in Orange last year and have become really proficient at this exacting work.
Mrs. Landweer concocted a delightful punch by mixing together in each punch bowl one quart bottle of carbonated strawberry beverage, one quart bottle of carbonated orange beverage and one cup of pineapple juice. When this was mixed with sparkling chunks of ice, it was as good to (Continued on Page 8).
