GOP Jubilant Over Warren-Nixon Ticket
WASHINGTON (P)g—Gov. Earl Warren's combined majority in the California primaries was greeted by Senator Brewster (R-Me.) today as also meaning an additional Republican Senator.
Brewster is chairman of the Republican Senate Campaign committee, which is after every victory possible in an effort to recapture GOP control of the Senate.
In Tuesday's California primaries, Republican Warren almost doubled the vote of James Roosevelt in the Republican and Democratic gubernatorial primaries combined.
"That (combined majority) means victory this fall for a Warren-Nixon ticket over a Roosevelt-Douglas slate," Senator Brewster told reporters.
Two house members, Rep. Helen Gahagan Douglas, Democrat, and Richard M. Nixon, Republican, were nominated for Senator in California, to fill the place of Democratic Senator Downey who did not run for re-election.
Mrs. Douglas has been an ardent New Dealer while Nixon has been prominent in house investigations of alleged communists and leftist groups.
Brewster took the stand that the California tickets "will present a clean cut issue for the voters."
The present Senate line-up is 54 Democrats to 42 Republicans.
After much persuasion that she wrote it down,
HOME MADE VANILLA ICE CREAM
Well ahead of time, make a custard of 2 cups milk, 2 to 3 egg yolks and ¼ cup sugar. Cook over a very low flame or in a double boiler until the mixture coats the spoon. Cool. Next, mix 2 quarts milk with 2 cups sugar and heat until luke warm. It is essential that the liquid be the right temperature, so test by dripping a drop or two on your wrist to see that it is luke warm. Dissolve 2 Junket tablets in 1 tablespoon warm water. Add the Junket mixture to the warm milk with 1 teaspoon vanilla and a pinch of salt. Warm your ice cream freezer slightly by rinsing with warm water. Pour in the Junket and milk mixture and let stand until set, about 10 to 15 minutes. When Junket has set, whip until stiff. 1 cup all-purpose cream and 1 cup of well chilled evaporated milk. Add ½ cup of sugar to 2 cups of half and half cream. Combine your milk mixtures and whipped cream with cooled custard and pour over the firm Junket. The freezer should not be quite full because the mixture will expand as it freezes. Proceed according to directions for your freezer.
CHOCOLATE SAUCE
½ cup cocoa
1 cup granulated sugar
⅛ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Combine all but butter and vanilla in sauce pan. Stir over low heat till sugar is dissolved. Cook without stirring until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Stir in vanilla and butter. Serve hot or cold.

June is my favorite month. It is a month of beautiful flowers, gay graduation dresses, and lovely brides. It is usually a time of many parties. If you are planning festivities for a bride-to-be, it will perhaps help to know the details of successful parties your neighbors have given.
Ruth Compton of Chapman, ave., Orange and Beatrice Baumbach, 318 N. Pine st., Anaheim, have given a most delightful bridal shower for Lois Mae Sharar of 10682 Ball rd., Anaheim. These resourceful young people enlisted the aid of their parents and served the following refreshments:

Chocolate Sauce
Individual decorated white cakes Coffee
W. G. Compton prepared the ice and salt for their one and a half gallon ice cream freezer while Mrs. Baumbach mixed up her own special formula for vanilla ice cream. It is a rich, velvety smooth cream that makes other ice cream seem like frozen custard by comparison. Mrs. Compton carries the recipe in her head and it was only $\frac{1}{2}$ cup cocoa
1 cup granulated sugar
$\frac{1}{8}$ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Combine all but butter and vanilla in sauce pan. Stir over low heat till sugar is dissolved. Cook without stirring until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Stir in vanilla and butter. Serve hot or cold.
This makes a very good dark fudge-like sauce that can be made several days before and kept in the refrigerator till needed. If your children like cocoa in the morning, make it by adding a spoonful of this sauce to hot milk.
WHITE CAKE
2 cups sifted cake flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
$\frac{1}{4}$ teaspoon salt
$\frac{1}{2}$ cup shortening
$1 \frac{1}{2}$ cups sugar
$\frac{3}{4}$ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 egg whites
Sift flour before measuring and then sift three times after baking powder and salt has been added. Cream shortening, and sugar gradually. Cream until light. Add flour alternately with milk in small amounts, beating after each addition. Add vanilla. Beat egg whites till they stand in moist peats. Stir well. Bake in two 8 inch layer pans or in a sheet pan at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.
If you use white shortening, this will make a pure white cake. You may prefer to use cake mix.
Mrs. B. E. Baumbach made the cake for the bridal shower. She baked hers in a flat pan, cut the cake in squares and then decorated each square with pink and yellow roses with green leaves, all made with frosting. Mrs. Baumbach says her cake decorating does not amount to much but her family and friends think differently. She started her cake decorating by making fancy birthday cakes for her children when they were small and she has become very proficient. Her cakes are lovely to see as well as good to eat.
If you are planning a large party and have neither the time nor facilities to prepare all the food yourself, Mrs. Walter Paulus of 8725 Sunkist ave., recommends that you enlist the help of Anaheim food markets. Mrs. Paulus planned a reception following the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Jack...

The fruit punch was made from frozen Frappe," a fruit base sold Moore's ice cream plant. It comes in one gallon containers, packed in dry ice. You simply thaw and serve. The cakes were made at Hall's Bakery. They were something quite unusual and pretty—just right for a very special occasion. Karen's Candy shop supplied the mints. In case you have not tasted Karen's mints, they are the round, flat delicately colored mint patties. They have a ture mint flavor and are made fresh to your order.

Do you know of the good works being done by the Orange County Auxiliary of the Children's Home Society of California? This energetic group of young matrons came into the news last Thursday when they gave a silver tea at the home of Mrs. H. Glen Wallace, 1018 River Lane, Santa Ana. Although membership in the organization numbers only 29, they invited 1000 guests to this informal affair. Mrs. Wallace has a lovely new home and her colorful garden terrace provided a beautiful background. The proceeds from the silver tea will go toward maintaining a children's home for orphans. This home is maintained entirely through the support of the California Children's Home Society. I feel that this group deserves special mention. It is not often that we find a group of public spirited women who work so hard for such worthwhile cause.
