the London Naval conference of 1930 the isolationists would not even let Henry L. Stimson sign an agreement to "consult" before a war broke.
Or as late as 1946, our delegates writing the United Nations charter at San Francisco insisted on the right of "veto."
But time has moved so swiftly, the weapons of war have developed so gruesomely, that, in the five short years between 1945 and 1950, most of us regret that last remaining vestige of isolation—the veto.
This is an age when we concentrate on these militants until there you will be able to say: "How foolish those poor dubs were back in 1950." I hope you will have found a way to carry out what we in our hearts know is the answer—that men must know each other, live together, work together.
I hope you not only have profited from our mistakes but also have had the ingenuity to carry that principle beyond the Iron Curtain.
For if man is to drive away the mad master, fear, and if he attain the peace he hungers then somehow he must persuade the world to return to the great commandment "Love thy neighbor as thyself."
I hope that, by the time read this, mankind will have learned that lesson.
TODAY'S CROSS-WORD PUZZLE
Or as late as 1946, our delegates writing the United Nations charter at San Francisco insisted on the right of "veto."
But time has moved so swiftly, the weapons of war have developed so gruesomely, that, in the five short years between 1945 and 1950, most of us regret that last remaining vestige of isolation—the veto.
This is an age when we concentrate on things military until there is real worry we may go bankrupt, though the state of the world is fear, and fear is psychological—for which military might can bring no permanent care.
Removing Fear
If we could remove fear from the minds of men, our problems would be over. If we could especially remove the fear that has been carefully nurtured in the minds of the Russian people—fear against us which their Moscow masters want them to have—then our own fear would also vanish. So also would vanish our need for back-breaking armament.
But what our leaders do not realize today, but which I hope you have learned long before 2013, is that if we spent one-tenth the ingenuity we put into developing weapons of death into devising ways of struggling "thoughts" behind the Iron Curd, our fears might then be over.
As you in 2000 look back on us, you will decide that this is basically a "thought" war. One side has been especially successful in spreading "thoughts". Our side hasn't. Yes, this is a "thought" war first, though it may become a germ and Atom war later. And it will probably never become a war of bullets, tanks, cannon, because the armies of the future won't get close enough. Yet we are still spending our tax money on these old-fashioned weapons.
I hope by the time you read this

Father Thomas Cosgrove and Mrs. Heider were guest speakers. Mrs. Helen Krom, district deputy, welcomed and congratulated the new members, asking them to do their part at all times so that a birthday party like this one may be continued.
A social hour followed the business meeting, with Mrs. Burkhard and Mrs. Dan Neuman, hostesses at the beautifully appointed tea table.
Behind the tea table was a beautiful shrine of the Blessed Virgin, in a setting of flowers, with lighted candles adding to the beauty thereof.
Arrangements of gladioli and white marguerites were used to decorate the hall.
Mrs. Jack Burkhard, Mrs. Gus Lenain, Mrs. Victor Pelzer, Mrs. Agnes Zinda and Mrs. Neuman, were chairmen of the tea and decoration committee.

Bush League Boost For Anaheim Girl

when regular catcher Johnnie Johnson retired.
Last July, Mary went on tour with the squad and spent a month playing women's softball aggregations in Portland, Oregon, Salt Lake City, Toronto, Detroit and numerous other way points. The Lynx came home with a 13 and 4 record.
When the subject of women's softball, professional style, came up, Mary registered immediate disapproval. "Softball is a way to enjoy yourself," she said, "not a way to earn a living."
This year, the Lynx are signed up with two circuits, the Southern California League, which includes the Orange Lionettes, Santa Ana Queens, Monrovia Owls, Montebello Ramblers and the Atkins Park Starlettes and Belles; and the Western States League which consists of the Phoenix Ramblers, Fresno Rockets, Portland Florists, Salt Lake City Shamrocks and the Montebello Ramblers.
As for future plans, Mary's definitely include softball. However, even before that she's considering the matter of college. She is enrolled at Santa Barbara State where she will work her way through as a physical education major, starting net fall. Ultimately she hopes to step into a recreation director's spot somewhere.
Meanwhile, Mary has her eye out for a recreation job this summer, preferably in Anaheim or vicinity. And she attaches only
