Monday isn't wash day for me since I have had my automatic washing machine. It is much more simple to wash several times a week, whenever there is an accumulation of a full load of soiled clothes.
Washing is very nearly a pleasure when it consists merely of sorting the clothes, putting them in the washer, and hanging them out to dry. Of course, they still have to be ironed, but smart homemakers are choosing materials for summer that require little or no ironing. Seersucker, nylon and corduroy are examples.
Speaking of summer makes me think of the beach. Are we not fortunate to live as close to the ocean as we do? The children had already started to plead for a picnic on the sand, so I got out our beach clothes from last year. My how they have grown—the children, I mean. The clothes have stayed the same although they seem more faded than I remembered them to be.
A couple packages of dye can do wonders. Have you tried dying articles in your washing machine? Either the automatic or wringer type washer does an excellent job. Follow the directions on the package of dye. The agitating motion of the washer insures an even job and is especially good for large pieces such as curtains and bedspreads. Be sure to use plenty of dye.

tee was given by Mrs. Albert L. Raymond. Mrs. H. W. Saulsbery was elected leader and Mrs. H. G. Harling was elected assistant leader. Both ladies have been faithful workers in the section since it was organized in 1945, under the club presidency of Mrs. A. E. Schumacher. Even a college graduate can become carless unless she is constantly mindful of good speech. Good speech can even be effective with the disciplining of children. Mrs. Thompson reminded the group that there are four things to remember, enunciation, pronunciation, voice projection, and the quality and tone of voice. Poise and charm are developed through speech. Mrs. Thompson, herself exemplified these qualities with her charming personality and excellent command of words.
During the dinner hour, Miss Adeline Curtis recorded the gaiety of the members and played the record back to them. Later, each member individually recorded a short story or verse. As the records were played back, the members were surprised by the sounds of their voices. The records will be kept and played again next year to note any changes or improve-

VA REQUESTS HOSPITAL
WASHINGTON (P)—The Veterans Adiminstration formally asked the Navy today to transfer the Naval hospital at Long Beach, to veterans' use June 1. (The VA is taking over this hospital as a replacement for the Birmingham General hospital at Van Nuys, which is being closed.)
Veterans Administrator Carl R. Gary, Jr., said in a new statement that exhaustive study of both hospitals had shown that the Navy institution would be more economical, provide better facilities and would be less of a fire hazard.
"Some alterations will be necessary at Long Beach to meet the needs of the paraplegic patients moved from Van Nuys," he added.
