Volunteer fire departments of West Anaheim and Sun Garden village responded to calls and extinguished the blaze before it had completely destroyed the house. The wall of an adjoining cafe was seared by the flames but that building suffered no material damage. Colonist JV's Edge Downey 3-2 (Continued from Page 5) each chalked up one in the opening stanza and Lemus repeated in the third. Coach Glover speaks highly of his 1950 JV charges. "Most vastly improved squad I've seen," Dick said shortly before today's game. "They got a slow start in early season practice games, but since then they've really come to life." The record proves the point. The Colonists lost contests to Excelsior and Jordan at the outset of the diamond wars. Then they boomed back to dump Fullerton, Newport, Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin and a host of others in short order. Among their trophies, the Anaheimers can point to at least four shutouts. They took Orange 9-0, Fullerton 8-0 and jumped all over Newport twice in 13-0 and 8-0 fashion. The 8-0 win over Newport last week saw southpaw Troutman render the losers hitherto as runless and hence gave a niche in the Anaheim the Cooperstown memorial fact that Troutman, a transfer from West Vail year, is now winding a season in organized baseball only previous experience little summertime play. Coach Glover points man and Pat Roberts, ers, as Colonists directible for the "remarkable which enable the look up their impressive rechts figured in three shutout victories. The majority of the y nists are of course vane next year, which means John Wallin can expect soned hands in his career years in some cases with that seasoning, a Glover, goes the "finish team play and the fight which helped Colonist nate the field this year." What makes it more interesting is the fact that Troutman, a sophomore transfer from West Virginia this year, is now winding up his first season in organized baseball. His only previous experience was a little summertime play last year. Coach Glover points to Troutman and Pat Roberts, among others, as Colonists directly responsible for the "remarkable pitching" which enable the locals to pile up their impressive record. Roberts figured in three of the JV shutout victories. The majority of the young Colonists are of course varsity-bound next year, which means that Coach John Wallin can expect some seasoned hands in his camp for two years in some cases. And along with that seasoning, according to Glover, goes the "fine sense of team play and the fighting spirit" which helped Colonist JVs dominate the field this year.
