AUHS "Glamour Boy" Cast Aims at May 5 Opening Interrupting heavy rehearsal schedule for a few moments to pose for the photographer are 16 of the 22 Anaheim Union high school thespians currently engaged in the production of the junior play, "Glamour Boy." Miss Louise Hitt is directing the group. Curtain time in the high school auditorium will be 8 p.m., May 5. Fruit Size News Letter Available The citrus experiment station, University of California, has just released news letter No. 8 on 2-4, D and citrus fruit sizes, according to Dick Puffer, farm advisor. Copies of this news letter are available at the agricultural extension service, 1104 W. 8th street, Santa Study School Safety Measures For Rural Area A conference looking toward the expansion of the school safety patrol program in the rural areas of Orange county will be held next Monday and Tuesday (May 1 and 2), in Orange, Capt. H. C. Meehan, local commander of the California Highway Patrol, announced today. Growers who plan on using 2-4,D this spring should obtain a copy of this news letter. The concentration of materials to use and the timing of the spray is extremely important. The news letter contains a chart giving concentrations to use at the various times of application. No material should be applied until after the blooming period, according to findings of the investigators who have been testing and studying the use of 2-4,D in local orchards. Dr. William Stewart who headed up the research project during the past six years gave a full account of his work in Orange county at the recent Orange county citrus institute sponsored by the agricultural extension service. News letter No. 8 is a written report of his talk to the 1000 growers attending the institute. Godfrey Poetz Claimed by Death Godfrey Poetz 56, of 943 N. Helena St., Anaheim, died in Birmingham hospital, Van Nuys, April 27, after a long illness. Born in Greenville, S.C., he had lived in Anaheim for 28 years. The late Mr. Poetz was a member of St. Boniface Catholic church, and the Anaheim VFW and American Legion posts. Survivors are his wife, Bessie, of the home, and three sisters, Mother Belina of Kettle Falls, Wash., Mrs. Margaret Schwiers of Greenville, N.C., and Miss Thelma Poetz of Anaheim. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held Friday, April 21, at the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary. Requiem Mass was at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, in St. Boniface church. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Orange. Southern California Edison Company "owned by those it serves" 5 Opening Expert Tells Orange Worm Tests Today The latest findings on orange worm control in Orange county orchards will be explained to local citrus growers this Friday, April 28, 2 p.m., at the Santa Ana high school. This announcement comes from Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg. E. L. Atkins, entomologist, citrus experiment station, who has conducted numerous spray tests in Orange county orchards will present colored pictures showing the life cycles of the orange worms that are causing heavy losses in many orchards by puncturing the fruit and causing internal decay. Atkins has photographed the several kinds of worms doing the damage and will also show charts covering the results of spraying and the timing of the spray operation which is very important according to the farm advisor. Rush Bumgardner, deputy agricultural commissioner, will explain the extent of the spread of these pests in Orange county and report on his inspections and recommendations for commercial control. All growers are urged to attend and familiarize themselves with the habits and control of orange worms, since operations will normally start in early May. The meeting will be held in the Little Theatre auditorium of the Santa Ana high school, 525 West Walnut street, Santa Ana. Helen Douglas Gets Democrat Committee Nod Democratic Central Committee of Orange county gave endorsement to democratic candidate United States Senator He Gahagan Douglas last Thursday night, according to announcer by James E. Walker, chairwoman Mrs. Douglas' Orange county paign committee. Accordingly Walker, the committee's decision to endorse the candidate was animous. The report from Walker's office also stated that similar action been taken by democratic center committees in Riverside, Fresno Joaquin, Contra Costa, St. Louis and Tulare counties. Easiest Terms in Town Anaheim Gazette, Thursday, April 27, 1950 Don Thomas, managing-director of the community travel advertising organization, explained this means money spent within the Southland by the vacation visitors. It does not include the cost of the trips to and from the visitors' home cities. Thomas said most of the Southland's visitors make a round trip of nearly 4,000 miles in order to enjoy a few weeks of palm trees, orange groves, and sunshine. The $20,000,000 was expended almost entirely on the retail level so that it was quickly translated into business activity and added employment, Thomas said.
