'The Heiress' Slated For Pasadena Run
Sparks of love blaze into flames of hate when a timid heiress at last rebels against an egotistic father and a charming fortune hunter. That's the sequence of dramatic events in "The Heiress," coming to Pasadena Playhouse for two weeks, starting Wednesday, April 26.
Set in a Washington Square mansion, this moving drama chronicles the love story of a hopelessly plain wallflower — whose only social grace seems to be a flair for embroidery—and her courtship by a handsome, glamorous idler.
The girl's father, a combination of too many "isms"—egotism, idealism and extreme, unctuous moralism—views his daughter as socially undesirable, and through his obsession for perfection, turns her into just that. The dramatic climax leads to a surprise ending.
Under the direction of Gilmor Brown, the cast includes: Peggy Campbell, Thomas Skinner, Charles Davis, Kay Nielsen, Sela Landon, Dorothy Perkins, Thomas Neet, Estelle Fugate and Helen Biberman, with Michael Morehouse understudying Charles Davis.
