Social and Club Activities Anaheim Conservatory of Music Presents Two Easter Recitals The first of two recitals at the Anaheim Conservatory of Music on West Center street, was held Tuesday evening of last week at 7:30 o'clock with students of the piano and voice department presenting the program. Mrs. Anna Siegel is director and the muscale was in the form of an Easter party. Baskets in gay colors were used as decorative theme and a pink and blue fur-clad bunnie was cleverly enacted by Kathryn Davis, who hopped around the room bringing Easter baskets filled with candy, which were then hidden and each child had to find one. Ced punch and cookies were served by the hostess, assisted by Patty Harker, Norma and Carol Caffee, Mary Lou Gastelum and Sara Green. Fifty-five guests and friends were present. First on the program was Kathryn Davis, "Jesus Loves Me," Margaret Wittesch, "America the Beautiful;" Walter Wittesch, "Yankee Doodle;" Johnny Adams, "A Pirate Story;" Sherrill Anne Krastel, "The Dream Boat;" Evelyn Tally, "Gertrude's Dream Waltz;" Mildred Woods. "A Rose in My Garden;" Rosalie Miller sang the song "Jesus Christ Is Risen Today," and later played "Slovakian Song," wearing a costume brought from that country by Mrs. Siegel years ago. Doris Simmons sang "Worship" Immediately following the ceremony, the bridal party and guests will go to the Union club in Tokyo for the reception. A bridal cake will center the bride's table which will be decorated with white flowers and lighted candles. Sandwiches and punch will be served. Miss Barnett is employed with the civil and foreign affairs division of civil service and has been in Tokyo since September 30, 1948. She is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school, Fullerton Junior college and the University of Southern California. She was employed in a stationery store in Los Angeles for almost two years before accepting foreign duty. While in university, she became a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Sgt. Goodenough, Jr., is a graduate of Morristown schools and Catawaba college at Salisbury, North Carolina, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He entered the Army and he is with the General Headquarters. From Japan he went to the Philippine Islands and was later returned to Japan where he is stationed at the present time. He plans to make the Army his life career. The young couple will make their home in Yokohama. Friends of Miss Barnett who wish to send congratulations may address her with her new name: Mrs. Franklin B. Goodenough Jr., Kanagawa, C.I.C. Aire APO 503, c/o P.M., San Francisco, Calif. Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Guests Mrs. Krogen Anaheim Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met in the Rose Room of the Mother Colony House Restaurant on Monday evening, April 10th, for a dinner meeting. Mrs. Ann Krogen (honorary member) was the hostess of this delightful evening with 22 members present. The tables were decorated with camellias and roses with nut cups carrying out the Easter theme. A very short business meeting followed the delicious dinner, presided over by the president, Irene Holland. Of interest to the members was the fact that the out-going president, Irene Holland, and incoming president, Eloise Smith, were planning on attending the state convention to be held at Santa Barbara on April 15th and 16th. Following this, the president turned the meeting over to Beulah Hineman who, assisted by Helen Sharp, Mildred Mauerhan and Alice Myers, officiated at the beautiful candle light Exempler Ritual. The following members were made Exemplers: Irene Holland, Anna Claire Mauerhan, Kaye Fancher, Floise Smith and Joseph- Margaret Wittesch, "America the Beautiful;" Walter Wittesch, "Yankee Doodle;" Johnny Adams, "A Pirate Story;" Sherrill Anne Krastel, "The Dream Boat;" Evelyn Tally, "Gertrude's Dream Waltz;" Mildred Woods. Archie Stodart suffered a broken foot some time ago but came to the recital on crutches and played as his number "Sonatina" by Haydn. Patty Parker played "Waltz in A flat" by Brahms; Carol Caffee, "The Old Fashioned Waltz;" Mary Lou Gastelum, "Because;" Sara Green, "Moonmoths" by Kuissner, and Peppy Arriaza played "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven. The violin pupils of Vladimir Lenski who has been teaching at the conservatory for the past twenty years as the head of the violin department, presented the second recital. A number of his pupils have won great acclaim in the county for the fine concert type work they have done. Two of his students have been members of the southern California high school orchestra. Janet Ray and Phillip Taylor have just returned from a concert tour and appeared on the Wednesday evening musicale, which was held at 8 o'clock. Forty guests were present. Iced punch and cookies were served at the close of the program, Mrs. Clarence Taylor furnishing the refreshments. To open the evening's program Rosemarie Flynn played "Ave Maria" by Gounod; Joe Langford, "Concert" by Viotti; Ann Allen, "Air" by Danila; Kenneth Sorensen, "Berceuse" by Godard; Joanne Roselle did some outstanding work when she played Schubert's "Ave Maria;" Richard Wolfe, "Son of the Pussta" by Tela Bela; Wendell Taylor, "Ballade" by Vieux-temps; Regina Zirkelbach, another pupil who does outstanding work, played "Polonaise" by Vieux-temps; Mary Keniston, "Legende" by Wienowski; Judith LaMori, "Hejre Kati" by Hubay; Carol Hochuli, "Romance" by Beethoven; Janet Ray, "Concert" by Mendelsohn, and Phillip Taylor playing "Symphonie Espagnoe" by Lalo, the last four being exceptionally fine artists. Goodenough, Jr. To Wed in Tokyo Mr. and Mrs. Alvin S. Bárnett of 1626 E. Santa Ana street, this city, announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Virginia Jean, to Sgt. Franklin Bacon Goodenough, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Bacon Goodenough, Sr., of Morristown, New Jersey, in St. Luke's chapel at Tokyo, Japan, General hospital on April 22 at 2:30 p.m. Chaplain Col. John C. W. Linsley will perform the ceremony before about fifty friends of the couple. The chapel will be decorated with white flowers and lighted tapers, the bridal couple receiving their nuptial blessing before a background of blossoms and soft candle light. Given in marriage by her boss, Col. Charles H. Owens, the bride will wear a beautiful blue suit with a matching hat. With this she will wear black shoes and carry a black purse and white gloves. Her adornment will be a string of pearls and her bridal bouquet will be a lapel corsage of white orchids. Miss Ruth DeRuntz, whose home is in Arcadia, California, will serve Miss Barnett as maid-of-honor. Smith-Kellogg Engagement Told Mrs. Frank Kellogg and daughter, Joanne, of 530 North West street, returned home Wednesday evening of last week from San Francisco where they attended an announcement party of the engagement of her son, Frank, Jr., to Miss Shirley Jean Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Sigamund of Long View, Wash. The wedding is scheduled for June 17 at St. James Episcopal church in San Francisco. The party was held in the lounge of the nurses quarters of Stanford University hospital with sixty student nurses present. The evening was enjoyed playing canasta. The traditional bouquet of American beauty roses was used as the center of the decorative theme, a tradition existing for a number of years at the hospital denoting the engagement of one of the student nurses.
