IOOF Urged to Train Youth
Orange county and southern California were well represented Friday evening when Burt J. LaFontaine paid his official visit to the Anaheim Encampment I.O.O.F. as the Grand Patriarch of California.
He asked that the order pay special attention to the Junior Order of Add Fellows, as the training they receive now will determine the type of citizens they will make tomorrow. He stressed that if we properly train the youth of our land we can, to a large extent, solve the criminal problem in this country.
Among distinguished guests present were Past Grand Patriarchs Harry Say, Albert Clarke and Henry A. Mang; District Deputy Grand Patriarch, Elmer Klamroth; Colonel A. E. Howard and Lt. Colonel S. D. Haygood of the Couton Branch of the Order. E. S. Reisinger, Chief Patriarch of the Anaheim Encampment introduced these officers.
Senior Students
Present Musicale
A candlelight musicale was presented on Sunday afternoon by the senior students of the School of Fine Arts of which Kate McCullah is the director.
Featuring the music of Edvard Grieg in the opening group, Jim Kersten, Fernando Ramos, Stuart Schmid and John Simpson played a rare eight hand arrangement of "Morning" from the "Peer Gynt Suite." Gloria Taylor followed them with "Anitra's Dance" from the same suite. "Edvard Grieg and the music of Norway are one," said Sharon Crooke before she played one of his national Norwegian dances after which Barbara Mauerhan played Grieg's "Minuet." Bill Jensen sang "I Love Thee" with Sharon Crooke and Gloria Taylor at the two pianos. Shirley Pannier concluded this part of the program with Grieg's "March of the Dwarfs."
The second half of the program opened with an old Spanish ballad played by John Simpson followed by Stuart Schmid in McDowell's "Scotch Poem." Shirley Pannier presented Chopin's "Revolutionary Etude" and the program was closed with a two-piano arrangement of Lizst's "Hungarian Rhapsody" played by Jim Kersten and Stuart Schmid.
Honor awards went to Barbara Mauerhan, John Simpson and Gloria Taylor.
The students, assisted by Mrs. Raymond Ringwald, received their guests later gowned in spring dinner dresses. The lace-covered table held silver candelabra with a large bowl of camellias.
