Public Forum
Hears Talk
On Russia
Newton Bell, commentator and correspondent, spoke at the Anaheim Public Forum Monday night at Anaheim Union high school. Mr. Bell is a native California residing in San Francisco, who has served in both wars and trained extensively behind the "incurtain."
The title of Mr. Bell's speech was "Soviet Russia — Peace War." He brought out the fact that in dealing with Russia he must always be firm. They are bargainers by trade and always ask for more concessions than they expect, hoping to meet the half-way agreement with their opposition. He commented on the complete lack of the finer living known to Russia before 1918. Crude is the word for their managers and living at present.
Mr. Bell does not believe the Communist-dominated China will adhere to the "party-line" because the Chinese are an independent people with centuries of individual tendencies behind them. He hoped that we would back Tito indefinitely because the hurt to Russia's pride in the break did much to break faith among many Communist countries.
BOY SCOUT WEEK
TO BE CELEBRATED
To celebrate Boy Scout Week the troops are holding "open houses" at their weekly meeting. Several troops are holding courses of honor and the Cubs are having courts of achievement. Wealth permitting there will be week-even camping expeditions.

Valentine Gift Suggestions Found Locally
Shopping for Valentines up and down Center street can be found a stupendous toy box at Weber's decorated with horses a la merry-go-round to delight any child's heart. It is sturdily built and will hold all the toys any normal child will have collected. For "her" Weber's have a shadow-box picture frame for her dressing-table, to hold your picture. A fine selection of Valentine cards there and books if your Valenfine reads.
The Baton Music Shop has a special Bing Crosby album just for the occasion. Put out by Decca for long-play it has eight selections of love by the vocal master.
A gift from Singer will always thrill her and has a lasting use. Right now Singer is featuring a special dress-making course with all the new "short-cuts" free with every dress form purchased. These dress forms for the expert home seamstress are a must. Also in that shop I found some eyelet aprons that will dress up any outfit when trotting from kitchen to living-room. A sewing box for any woman is appreciated and they are in gay chintzes. If she has always yearned for a sewing cabinet, you can find them there that can double for bedside tables.

A Revere-ware tea-kettle there catches your headed by Senator William Hearn of Marysville, held a session discuss a portion of the which will be presented to mittees of both houses next.
The Departments: State surger Charles G. Johnson block of $25,000,000 veterans' fare bonds, obtaining a pre-fund of $1,652,600, largest ever raised by the state; education tempts to work out an arrangement with the veterans administration for funds to new states junior colleges; motor vehicle completed the 1950 license renewal period with the estates that at least 93 percent of formia's motorists have come with the law and purchased licenses; social welfare regulations which will eliminate the threat of non-conformity assure Federal money next month.
CALIFORNIA Last Week
The Governor finally started his political season by announcing for a third term as chief executive of the state, a move which drew a barb from Jimmy Roosevelt, the democratic contender. Roosevelt predicted the governor would join the rank's of California's half million unemployed next November, and Warren countered with the statement that he appreciates Roosevelt's sympathy, as the democrats "know what it is to be unemployed." Meanwhile, Warren made his first radio speech of the campaign, and announced he plans to sandwich in a lot of traveling between attending to the business of governor and trying to keep the job.
The Legislature: Although the 1950 budget session still is a month away, legislators are preparing to handle another more than a billion document, which will represent the administration's program for operating the state from July 1, 1950 to June 30, 1951; the legislative budget committee,

At Kendrick's, for "him" is a
collection of cuff-links to be seen
and appreciated. Also a heartshaped rhinestone pin and matching ear-rings for a luxury gift.
A gold bracelet with a heart and
key on it would certainly tell her
where your heart is. And there
is time to have it monogrammed
before February 14. Kendrick's
handles the renowned line of Krementz jewelry and have just received a pendant and matching
pin that are most unusual. The
gold is hammered into a beautiful small rose in the pendant and
two roses in the pin.
Bob Williams' has fielder's mitts
