Ditty bags again will be used this year by each troop for individual contributions of a penny for each year of age to the furthering of world friendship. A real international spirit is being planned for this year's observance with each Intermediate troop making a flag, three by five feet, of a United Nations country, to be donated to the local Girl Scouts. Brownie troops are contributing standards and poles for these flags. Each troop will enact a short skit or dance typical of the country whose flag they make, and Brownie troops of each school will join to present a song typical of regular Brownie meetings. Any troop desiring further help is asked to call Mrs. Agren, 4873, or Mrs. DeCook, 4466.
Offer Workshop
A workshop is being offered in Santa Ana at the Girl Scout office January 17 and January 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., it was announced by Mrs. Jerry Schiller, local council assisant. She also stated that the local office will offer training courses as needed and requested by the leaders.
Mrs. DeCook asked that consideration be given three possible program ideas which are being tentatively discussed for early in May. Decision on their acceptance or rejection will be made at the next meeting, February 20. Cypress has asked that the next meeting be held there and the invitation was accepted with pleasure by the group.
Mrs. William Bushman, camp chairman, stated that Camp San Antonio will be the camping site again this year, with the first ten days in August as probable date.
Mrs. Jerry Dolan presented a report of a group of leaders working on a proposed change of the present Girl Scout organization to the so-called Council-Association plan. She stated that with the current growth of the organization to over 100 adult leaders, many of these leaders felt that they lacked real representation under the present council plan. She also stated that for at least a year the leaders and council members have expressed a desire to know more of the proposed plan but that for

Re-Organization Plan
Mrs. J. Dutzi, another member of the combined committee appointed by the leaders to investigate further, read the correspondence which they had received in answer to queries to surrounding communities and regional Girl Scout headquarters. Some of the communities either considering or starting on the new plan include Bellflower, Santa Ana, Newport, Laguna Beach and Orange. Invitations from several of these were extended local leaders to attend and observe the working of the new plan as it gets into action. Concluding these reports on the association plan, it was voted to purchase five additional sets of descriptive literature sent out by national headquarters to discuss the pros and cons of the proposed change.
A letter of thanks was voted the high school which, on extremely short notice, permitted the leaders to hold their meeting there Monday evening. A mix-up had left the group without an adequate meeting site.
A completely typical afternoon in the home of a Girl Scout leader was the theme of a short skit which concluded the evening. Mrs. Lee Symonds was the "confused leader;" Mrs. Archie Henry, Jr., played the part of her mother; Mrs. Forrest Simonton was a true-life small daughter; and Mrs. Hathaway was another Girl Scout leader. In addition to pointing up the usual happenings at home on Girl Scout day, an opportunity was taken to point up, by "horrible example," all the wrong things which a Girl Scout might do to her uniform, and the correct attire of an adult leader.

Assistance League Outlines Program
A comprehensive 1950 program was outlined by Assistance League members as they gathered for a luncheon meeting last Thursday at the home of Mrs. Cortez Hoskins, under leadership of Mrs. Ernest Ganahl.
Assisting hostesses for the affair were Mesdames Arthur Elliott and Mrs. E. H. Kersten. Mrs. William Le Vecke was introduced as a new member.
Philanthropies benefitted in the past through efforts of the league and future projects to be aided were discussed by Mrs. Ben Kaulbars.
Christmas was made brighter for patients in the Orange county hospital's TB ward by the league, she remarked.
Two of the three fund-raising projects of the group are marked upon the 1949 calendar pages as big successes. These were the morning salon featuring Meredith Willson, author, composer, director, as guest speaker, and the Christmas tea and bazaar held at the home of Mrs. Ganahl. She was assisted with this event by Mrs. C.
E Harbeson, general chairman of the ways and means committee and by Mrs. H. H. Hunt, bazaar chairman, and her co-workers Mesdames John Boege and Cortez Hoskins.
Third fund-raising campaign will be a three-day thrift shop to be featured in March, time and place to be announced soon. New and old articles including furniture and household goods will be sold, as will clothing and cooked foods.
Thrift shop chairmen will be Mrs. Joe Walter, Mrs. John Wilson and Mrs. Glehn Peck.
Marywood Class To Stage Play
A three-act comedy, "Jennny Kissed Me," by Jean Kerr, has been selected for the annual senior class play at Marywood high school, 407 East Broadway, February 15, at 8:15 p.m. in the auditorium of the Catholic school for girls.
Gwen Holly Simpson, instructor or dramatics, assisted by members of the senior class, is directing the play. This comedy was first staged at the Catholic University of America.

Benefit Square Dance Tomorrow
Bright ginghams and gay plaid shirts will be in order for the charity square dancing party to be staged tomorrow (Friday) night at Sunny Hills recreation hall under auspices of the Junior Women's Orange County Federation.
All money from the "hoe-down" benefit will go for the Carl Harvey School for Handicapped expansion fund.
New rooms are desperately needed at the school, according to members who pointed out that areas previously available to the spastic and otherwise handicapped youngsters now is needed for regular county school work. Large enrollment was cited as direct cause of the shortage of space.
Final dance plans were reviewed recently at the home of Mrs. Wesley Mendoza. Jimmie Lane, well known to square dance clubs of this county, will be caller for the benefit party.
The spacious hall will accommodate 90 couples. Each club in the county sold tickets which also will be available at the box office.

The engagement of Miss Connie Jo Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Benson, 127 West Valencia street, Anaheim, to Pfc. Paul Tighe, stationed at the Marine Corps Air station, El Toro, was announced during a family party recently.
A graduate of Anaheim Union high school, Miss Benson is attending Fullerton Junior college. Her bridegroom-elect, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Tighe of Grand Junction, Colorado, is an alumnus of Grand Valley, Colorado high school and attended Colorado Agriculture and Mining college.
Wedding bells are tentatively set to ring next summer at St.
