Six Orange County Schools Are to Receive $16,236
Sacramento—Six school districts in Orange county are scheduled to receive a total of $16,236.46 as the result of legislative action today in adoption of a bill appropriating $2,100,000 for the relief of distressed school districts.
The program was adopted by the legislature only after the legislative auditor's office estimated the amount needed to take care of the requirements of the school districts for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Car Registration To Begin Jan. 3, Extends to Feb. 4
Cacramento,—A. H. Henderson, the director of motor vehicles, announced that the registration period for 1950 automobiles would open January 3, and extend midnight, February 4.
Henderson said that registration fires by midnight, December 31, because of intervening holiday, did not begin until January 3.
Henderson urges all motorists pay their fees in person instead of mail and to use the potentialistration card for 1950, copies which are being mailed to 100,000 automobile owners in California immediately after Christmas.
Branch offices of the department all through the state are manned to handle the renewal period in record time.
Persons who do not receive 1950 potential registration cards by January 15 should use their 1949 registration slips for renewal purposes, Henderson said. Aluminum and red license tabs will be issued immediately, and 1950 registration cards will be mailed.
Where a change in legal ownership is to be made, Henderson said the pink slip must be presented with the renewal application. A fee of $1.00 is charged for this transaction.
There are set fees for registration renewal, and motorists pay day in adoption of a bill appropriating $2,100,000 for the relief of distressed school districts.
The program was adopted by the legislature only after the legislative auditor's office estimated the amount needed to take care of the requirements of the school districts for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Unless funds were granted, it was pointed out, the districts would have been unable to follow the constitutional requirements for a full school year.
Requirement for the additional funds was the result of growth of schools in the county, which had not been anticipated at the time budgets were adopted last year.

Paraplegic Vets Played Benefit Games in January
One of the most unusual demonstrations of basketball skill and will to succeed despite serious physical adversity took place in January when the paraplegic basketball team of the Birmingham General hospital played a march of Dimes benefit basketball game with the Aggies team. The paralyzed vets free-wheel to a 41-21 victory in a contest which was played from wheel hairs. The victors employed tight blocking defense when proved too much for the local city league entry. By wheeling in front of the opposition they were able to effectively cover their scoring players.
A scant crowd of 150 contributed $64 to the local Dimes campaign. In view of the lower-than-anticipated gate, the vets contributed their traveling expenses to the fund.
