Christmas Seals Chairman Praises Postal Employees
Harry L. Hanson, chairman of the Christmas Seal Sale of the Orange County Tuberculosis and Health association sent special letters of commendation to postmasters and postal employees thrust out the county for their efficient and speedy handling of the Seal Sale letters.
"The effective work of the postal employees is a major factor in a successful mail campaign. It is particularly appropriate to note that the Christmas Seal itself is the brainchild of another postman in Denmark," said Hanson.
"The use of the Christmas Seal as a reminder of the approaching Christmas holiday is a tradition which is over 40 years old. It also a tribute to the generosity and a spirit of helpfulness of the American people which has reduced the terrible toll of death from tuberculosis by 80 per cent since 1904 in the United States," he stated.
Hanson reminded Orange county residents that the purchase of Christmas Seals buy health and the hope that this disease will soon be eradicated.

Warn Drivers Not to 'Kid' Themselves
"Don't kid yourself."
This warning was sounded today to the state's five million automobile drivers by a man who knows. He is Clifford E. Peterson, commissioner of the highway patrol, and he talked as the patrol perfected plans to combat the December accident toll.
“This is the deadliest time of year because of shorter days and inclement weather, so don't kid yourself by thinking you can drive the same way you do at other times,” Peterson said.
“Last December we set a new 6all-time record of 328 deaths and 8,705 injuries, most of them the result of persons kidding themselves into believing they could do the impossible in traffic.
"Some were pedestrians who took careless chances, some were drivers who fought for the right-of-way, some tried to beat trains at crossings, some tried to stop without good brakes, and far too many tried to drive after drinking.”
“You can't see as well in foggy or rainy weather and you can't stop as quickly on wet, slippery pavement. Don't kid yourself by thinking you can or you will be a statistic instead of a live Californian on Christmas morning.”
