The new green and white posters, bearing blue and gold division of fish and game seals, mark six major cooperative hunting areas in the Sacramento Valley! A $2 trespass fee will be charged on 11,000 acres, while the balance of the pheasant hunting territory will be open to licensed hunters without charge. A $2 trespass fee will be charged on 11,000 acres, while the balance of the pheasant hunting territory will be open to licensed hunters without charge. A new experiment in landowner-sportsman relations, the Cooperative Hunting Area Act was passed during the last session of the Legislature at the request of organized sportsmen and the state division. It calls for controlled public hunting on private lands patrolled by state game wardens and game biologists. Additional 122,000 An additional 122,000 acres will be opened for the first time under similar provisions set by the fish and game commission. No charge will be made on commission areas, where approximately 35,000 pheasants have been planted since spring. Acting Chief Ben Glading of the bureau of game conservation reports the six legislative areas will accommodate a maximum of 7,500 hunters at a time. During the open pheasant hunting season, November 18 to November 27, sportsmen may get their chance to bag two male birds a day on a first come, first served basis, he said. In return for opening their lands to the public, cooperative landowners will be allowed to reserve a small section for selected hunters. These restricted areas will be posted and patrolled by division personnel. Under the legislative act, owners may charge a $2 fee, 25 percent of which must be expended for pheasant habitat improvement. State-raised birds are not released on areas making a charge. Turkey Thompson Faces Al Hart In Legion Main Turkey Thompson, currently ranked among the ten best heavyweights in the nation, will be out for sweet revenge when he squares off against Al Hart at Hollywood Legion Stadium Friday night. It was only a few years back that this same Hart handed Turkey his only knockout defeat right For Crown in Redlands Tilt Whittier, Nov. 17.—With only one obstacle remaining in the way of an undefeated Southern California Intercollegiate conference schedule, Coach Wallace "Chief" Newman's Whittier College gridmen will try to close their 1949 pigskin season with a championship performance when they meet the University of Redlands Bulldogs Saturday night, November 19, on Hadley Field. The Poets have a conference record of three wins, no losses, and need a tie or a victory Saturday night to pin down their first football title since 1941. A victory for the Bulldogs will give them a share of the crown, since they have two wins and one loss. On paper the Poets should be favored, but the Bulldogs have been coming along fast since losing to La Verne College, 26-7, early in the season. Beside the La Verne loss, Redlands has a tie with Flagstaff, and a loss to Pomona College Sagehens marring their record, which includes a 21-20 triumph over the Occidental Tigers. The Bulldogs also have a win over a club that has defeated Whittier, that being a 7-0 decision over Cal Poly. The Mustangs' let the Quakers have it, 19-10. Newman's gridders waxed Oxy 54-6, and Caltech, 55-7, and edged Pomona, 14-13, in conference play, and won over Santa Barbara, San Francisco State, Flagstaff, and Cal Aggies in non-loop tilts in building up their own seven wins, one loss record. Pheasant Tag System Starts San Francisco—In addition to a regular hunting license, an estimated quarter of a-million California pheasant hunters this season must also have in their possession a set of 10 pheasant tags, reminds the division of fish and game. The numbered paper tags, available for $1 at any of 2800 license agencies, must be attached to the leg of each bird taken during the 10-day season which opens at 8:00 a.m. November 18. With a two-a-day bag limit successful hunters may possess a maximum of two male ringnecks on the opening day; four on the second day; six on the third day; eight on the fourth day; and ten on the fifth day. Ten male birds... Faces Al Hart In Legion Main Turkey Thompson, currently ranked among the ten best heavyweights in the nation, will be out for sweet revenge when he squares off against Al Hart at Hollywood Legion Stadium Friday night. It was only a few years back that this same Hart handed Turkey his only knockout defeat right in Los Angeles. Since then Thompson has made some progress in his quest for a title shot. The mammoth Turk is unbeaten this year. He whipped Roy Taylor, and kayoed Lee Q. Murray and Bill Petersen in his last three bouts. A former titleholder in three divisions in California, Thompson is still regarded as one of the most popular as well as one of the most feared fighters in Pacific Coast boxing circles. Hart, who hails from Washington, D.C., holds a number of good wins other than the kayo over Turkey. He also boxed a draw with Joe Baksi. Al stands 6-feet, 2-inches in his stocking feet and tips the beam at 220 pounds. Georgie Fields fights Aurelio Ramirez in Friday's six-round semi-windup. They are welterweights. Other bouts, Hal Burger vs. Lill' Joe Charles, heavies; Bobby Garza vs. Beto Juarez, featherweights; Leo Romero vs. Russ Swank, welters, and Frank Morage vs. Enoch Lee, light-heavyweights. The Indian Territory and Oklahoma territory were consolidated and admitted to the Union as the state of Oklahoma in 1907. Chas. N. Haskell was its first elected governor. Included in the list of cities where employment will be available are Hayward, Merced, Pismo Beach, Porterville, Redwood City, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Tulare, Visalia, and Watsonville. Through the 20th amendment to the U.S. Constitution the meeting of Congress was changed from March 4 to January 3, each year. Bees Clinch Championship With the Sunset League Bee championship safely tucked away, Chet Shirk's undefeated football squad was today pointing for a perfect season as they tangled with the Fullerton Bees in the '49 finale on the local field. The championship clincher came Monday afternoon when the battlin' Bees emerged from a 20-6 fray with Orange. Playing in what was their hardest game of the season, the locals left little doubt as to why they have come through the season undefeated. Caught short-handed in the third quarter when their stellar back Augie Huesca was ejected for "protesting" some roughing he was receiving the Bees rose defensively to hold Orange for the remainder of the game. Though tired after 60-minutes of rough football, the Bees still managed to carry their coach off the field on their shoulders.
