J: E. Schumacher Home Scene of Engagement Tea
During a Sunday afternoon announcement party, the engagement of Mary Elizabeth Stilwell of 2170 Arroyo Drive, Riverside, a former local girl, to Sam Cornhell, was disclosed, Mrs. Glenn Stilwell and her sister, mother and aunt of the honoree, and Mrs. Schumacher and her daughter, Elaine, acting as hostesses in the Schumacher home, 717 North Clementine street.
Wedding bells will ring for the young couple December 28 in St. Boniface Catholic church, Anaheim. The bride-elect, a native of Anaheim, obtained her earlier schooling here and is a graduate of San Francisco College for Women (Madames of the Sacred Heart) on Lone Mountain. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stilwell of Riverside, formerly made their home here.
The bridegroom-to-be, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Lucius Cornell of Merced, is in his senior year at the University of San Francisco.

DR. AND MRS. JOHN WOOD MARK ANNIVERSARY
Dr. and Mrs. John A. Wood celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with a dinner party Saturday evening at their home, 13592 East Santa Ana street. The affair was enjoyed by family members and very close friends of the couple.
White chrysanthemums and white and silver tapers were attractively arranged in the living and dining rooms of the Wood residence.
The doctor and his wife have resided here for the past 21 years.
Surprise Theme For Jr. Ebell Fashion Party
With a gay surprise theme promised, plans are well underway for the Junior Ebell Kiddie Fashion Show and Dessert Bridge party to be held December 3, Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the club house, it was announced today.
This annual event will be presented by members of the Ways and Means committee for Junior Ebell club members and guests. All proceeds will go toward its child welfare fund.
Youngsters of members will model smart styles from the Betty Pauline Knapp Back in Town
Pauline Knapp, a former Anaheim resident, has returned to this city, accepting a position on Monday in the television department of Hartfield Jewelry company; 108 West Center street.
Anaheim citizens will remember Miss Knapp as the former assistant secretary of the Chamber of Commerce approximately five years ago when Johnny Johnston was secretary-manager.
She moved into new living quarters yesterday (Wednesday) at 709-C, North Lemon street, this city, coming here from Laguna Beach, where she had resided for the past year.
Miss Knapp was legal secretary to Richard Cantillon of the Los Angeles law firm of Cantillon & Glover for the three preceding years.
Almost a native of this area, Miss Knapp attended Fullerton high school and junior college. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Knapp, moved from the family home on East Anaheim road to Oregon three years ago.
Her varied career includes being secretary to Sam Collins at the time when he was district attorney, and later, being his private secretary in Washington, D. C., when he was elected to Congress.
When formerly a resident here, Miss Knapp was active in St. Agnes Guild of St. Michael's Episcopal church and in USO work.

Dainty tea cakes, open faced sandwiches and tea were enjoyed in an atmosphere of soft candle light glowing from golden tapers. For the occasion, Miss Stilwell chose an afternoon dress of soft brown imported organdy over chantilly lace, accented by a cluster of small white orchids pinned at the waistline.
A black afternoon dress and a silver ribboned gardenia corsage were worn by the honoree's mother.
Presiding at the tea and coffee urns were Miss Cecilia Lower of Puente, Miss Rose Anna Peterson of Susan, California, both collegemates of Miss Stilwell from Lone Mountain; Miss Virginia Jacobsmeyer of Riverside; Mrs. Joan Mills Warner, Santa Ana, and Mrs. E. E. Bruce, Mrs. L. J. Heffner and Miss Barbara Heying, all of Anaheim.
Royal Neighbors To Honor Officer
The Rosewood Camp 6250, Royal Neighbors of America are planning to attend the Fullerton Camp program November 22, to honor the district deputy, Lenora Fitcher.
Members of the Rosewood Camp of this city met recently with Oracle Olga T. Ballinger, 241 East Adele street, with good attendance, to discuss the coming Fullerton event.
Spirit of Christmas will hold sway when the group enjoys a Yule party at the home of Lizzie Benzel, 500 South Illinois street, at 1:30 p.m., December 13. The gift exchange and a donation of canned food for a needy member will be featured at the party.
The New York City postoffice receives, delivers and distributes an average of more than 19,200,000 pieces of mail daily.

Mrs. Evelyn Monaco of Santa Fe, New Mexico, national president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary, spoke at a dinner-meeting attended by 150 at the Imperial cafe on Garden Grove boulevard, recently.
This was the first departmental meeting to be held outside the Los Angeles area. Mrs. Mattie Klugow of Tracy, California, presided.
National theme of Mrs. Monaco's talk was "Let Freedom Ring!" Stressing the importance of women in government positions, she described her flight in a cargo plane during the Berlin airlift operation.
Following the dinner, a closed department meeting was held in the Anaheim IOOF hall. Filling some of the officer chairs in honorary capacity were a number of second district officers including Helen Hobbs of Banning, Minnie Harvey and Martha Russell of Anaheim, Marie Finley of Indio, Bertha Foxworthy of Orange and Beatrice Davis of Santa Ana.
Members of the Orange and Riverside auxiliaries comprised the hostess committee. Mrs. Opal Walter, department chaplain and head of the Anaheim auxiliary, was chairman.
BABY GIRL ARRIVES
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bauman, 427 South Illinois street, Anaheim, welcomed a baby daughter who arrived at Fullerton General hospital, Monday.

Mrs. Kitty Saiben was elected president of the Friendship Circle of the Grace Lutheran church at the regular meeting held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. W. Gibson, 10042 East Ball road, this city.
Other officers named include Faye Schimming, vice-president; Mrs. Ferne Heinze, secretary-treasurer, and Mrs. Eva Ter Beest, press woman. Mrs. Saiben succeeds Mrs. Fred Leibi, outgoing president, who presided over the business session.
Opening songs were "I need Thee Every Hour" and "Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Savior." Mrs. C. A. Benzil led the devotions taken from a chapter in the book of Isaiah.
Of the 21 members present, Mrs. Ben Ter Beest was the winner of the heart's desire box. Her gift was a "magic" thimble.
Plans for a bazaar and food sale to be held December 3, were discussed by the group. Time and place will be announced in the near future.
Next meeting of the group will be the December 20 Christmas party to be held at the home of Mrs. Ferne Heinze on West North street.

Mrs. J. K. Jung, accompanied by her daughter, Joyce, left their home, 206 Evelyn drive, Anaheim, last week, to join her husband, Chaplain J. K. Jung, in the western sector of Germany. They left for Europe via steamer out of New York harbor.

Mrs. J. K. Jung
Germany Bound
Mrs. J. K. Jung, accompanied by her daughter, Joyce, left their home, 206 Evelyn drive, Anaheim, last week, to join her husband, Chaplain J. K. Jung, in the western sector of Germany. They left for Europe via steamer out of New York harbor.
The Rev. Jung was former pastor of Grace Lutheran church. He left the local pastorate to become a chaplain with the Army Air forces in Germany last March.
Ralph Jung, son of the chaplain and his wife, is a freshman student at Capital University in Ohio.
The family expect to remain in Germany for at least two and a half years.
Marywood Stages Council Dance
Decorations and favors suggesting the Armistice Day theme were featured at a patriotic dance held Saturday night by the Marywood student council, under chairmanship of president Marie Carlson of the Catholic girls' high school.
During the evening square, folk and ballroom dancing was enjoyed. Chaperones for the occasion were parents of student council members.
