SOCIAL AND CLUB ACTIVITIES OF THE WEEK "Bosses Night" Features Talk, Pictures on Metropolitan Water Colored films with sound and a talk by Col. Donald M. Keith, attorney of Los Angeles and on the legal staff of the Metropolitan Water District, highlighted the dinner meeting and program of the Business and Professional Women's club Wednesday evening when they entertained their bosses at the annual affair in their honor. Preceding the film and talk, the public affair committee, who had charge of the program, introduced two small students from the Olive school, one of whom sang a song commemorating the anniversary of Columbus Day. Next on the program was the Fullerton Hornet Otcet, group from Junior college, singing three numbers, "Bells of St. Mary," "Went to the Animal Fair" and "Now Is the Hour." The rendition by these eight young men shows extreme talent as a singing group. Introduction of guests and roll call of members found 71 present. Most of the business of the meeting was dispensed with in order that the evening might be given to the principal speaker. He was assisted by Mr. Bolerio, who operated the projection machine. In the exquisite colors as mother nature painted them, the film showed the wonders of Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. Main point of interest in the first section of the showing was the problem of man conquering the 233 rapids in a boat, mapping the course of the river and the intensity of the flow of water. Col. Keith, in his talk, stated that California is not asking for more water, in reference to the present fight in Congress with the state of Arizona who is claiming "California is stealing our water." "Nothing," stated Col. Keith, "is further from the truth. California is just trying to retain that which is rightfully hers as contracted with the government a good many years ago." The original water district, of which Anaheim is a member along with twelve other cities in southern California, contracted with the government to purchase a large percentage of the electric power generated at Hoover Dam, thus placing no tax burden on the cities using the water. Arizona is trying to grab the water which she so badly needs at this time and has seen the water project proven to be a success. She has always fought construction of the project, propagandizing that the project was fantastic. Its efficiency, through the years, has proven this fantastic folly beyond its worth in the supply of water it furnished to those cities and communities who were farsighted enough to underwrite the project, along with several large utility firms. The project was financed by the government at a cost of $140 million dollars and is being repaid through the sale of electric power. The loss of this water would be inestimable to southern California. Metropolitan water is used for irrigation in Imperial Valley, Coachella Valley and in domestic use by 3,516,000 people. Total food producing acres of land receiving water through irrigation canals accounts for 500,000 acres of land brought into productive use. To- cucing acres of land per through irrigation for 500,000 acres right into productive in the Congress of the United States was wholly unsatisfactory to California, which, if passed would have jeopardized the water rights of this state. At the opening of the 82nd Congress, interested states will likely see a fight for settlement of the controversy which has been going on for 27 years, starting back in 1922. Many controversial questions must be settled. The growth of southern California is dependent upon supplemental water which we have and which we must protect. At the conclusion of the talk by Col. Keith, a question period was held, Col. Keith answering the problems of the questioners. In answer to one question, he stated that the potential capacity of Colorado river water through Hoover dam was 1,250,000 acre feet and the Metropolitan Water District was using 150,000 acre feet per year and the amount of usage is growing. The meeting ended with the reading of the club collect. William T. Bunt Dies at Fullerton William T.
