Walking Want Ad For CROP Drive When Marilyn Trick (above) goes out after contributions for the Christian Rural Overseas Program (CROP), she literally becomes a walking want ad. She wears this blouse made from CROP pamphlets and newspaper advertisements. Marilyn is one of more than 100,000 volunteers who will solicit farm commodities for shipment overseas in the CROP harvest drive to be launched soon in 33 states, including this one. During harvest last year, CROP volunteers assembled over 2,000 carloads of foodstuffs which were shipped to 22 foreign countries. Goals have been increased this year. The campaign is sponsored by Catholic Rural Life, Church World Service (22 denominations) and Lutheran World Relief. Home Building Continues at High Level Sacramento, (WNS) — Housing production in California is continuing at a high level, Frank C. Mortimer, state building and loan commissioner, reported to Governor Warren today. Both building and financing continue active, the report said, and construction costs are down from peak figures. Records of the commission show that approximately 549,000 new housing units were started during the first seven months of 1949, a figure only 4.1 percent below the record for the same seven months of 1948. New production, said Mortimer, includes an acceleration in the erection of flats and apartments. The building and loan association, the commissioner said, are doing a good business, and many have increased the maximum return to investors to three percent.
