Locals Scuttle Pilots' Boat, Take On Saints The Anaheim Scuttlers, fresh from a stunning upset victory over the Buena Park Pilots last Monday evening will be gunning for a repeat performance when they take on the league leading Santa Ana nine in Saint Town, Friday evening. It was the eighth game for the locals and gives them their first victory of the current niteball chase. Just what the Scuttlers did to find their hitting eye hasn't been determined—but it is trusted they'll be using the same formula Friday. More perplexing than the long losing streak is the complete disinterest or exodus of baseball fans from the city. The Memorial Day It was the eighth game for the locals and gives them their first victory of the current niteball chase. Just what the Scuttlers did to find their hitting eye hasn't been determined—but it is trusted they'll be using the same formula Friday. More perplexing than the long losing streak is the complete disinterest or exodus of baseball fans from the city. The Memorial Day victory was witnessed by a scant 62 fans—hardly a credit to the city's claim of being a "sporting town!" The locals jumped off to an early five run lead in the second and third innings and took out insurance with an additional tally in the seventh. The Pilots came through with a pair in the eighth. George Pearson turned in his usual good job of hurling and proved that with a little support, he is a winning pitcher. Church League Action Tonite In Church League action this evening, Thursday, June 2, the cellar-dwelling Calvary Baptist will be out after their first victory when they meet the White Temple team which has won its only game. The second contest finds the .500 playing Presbyterian's playing Church of Christ tied for last with Calvary. Pacing the league at the end of three weeks of play is the Grace Lutheran aggregation with a winning skein of three. First game starts at 7:30 p.m. with the second starting at around 8:45. Until the gutta percha ball was introduced in 1848, golf balls were stuffed with feathers. Bottger-Webb, Anaheim, Represent League In CIF Finals This Saturday Craig Bottger and Jim Webb of Anaheim will form half the doubles combination representing the league at the Southern CIF tennis finals to be played at Santa Ana high school courts this Saturday. Number one doubles combine in the league is that of Jim Welch and Tom Powers of Orange, who defeated the local entry in the finals of the Sunset League meet at Santa Ana last Saturday by a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 score. Powers and Welch had scored a 7-5, 6-3 win over Bottger and Webb in an Anaheim-Orange tennis match played during the current league combination. Anaheim's prowess on the court was very much in evidence Saturday with doubles entries competing in all phases of the elimination. With three double combines from Anaheim in the quarter-finals, the doubles matches began to look like the Sunset League vs. Anaheim. Welch and Powers faced and defeated Colonist entries in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
