La Habra Files Annexation on Six-Acre Tract
The city of LaHabra has filed annexation proceedings with the Secretary of State, Frank M. Jordan, for the uninhabited "Imperial Highway tract."
The six-acre tract is adjacent to the Los Angeles University of Applied Education and is on the east side of the school which previously was annexed to the city, to which it is connected by a shoe string strip.
It was reported that a drive-in theatre was planned to be erected on the site which now only has a restaurant.
Miss Doris Jean Keith was honored recently with a surprise bridal linen shower given by Miss Patsy Rettig and F Mrs. Effie Rettig in their home on Second street, La Habra. Games included court whist and a scrap-book game. Just before the refreshments were served a huge wedding cake was brought into the room. The cake, which was topped by a miniature bride and groom, was found, when cut, to contain the gifts for the honoree.
Guests other than the honoree included Mesdames Byran Haseltine, Noah C. Counts, William Keith, Barbara Schabert, and Wanda McCamis; and Misses Mary McKenzie, Carolyn Lemore, Jeanette Tinley, Helen Willis, Marilyn Clark, Jacquie Wiffloed, Mary Anglin, Dorothy Milligan, Oleta Clarida, Eunice Word, Leone Johnson, Louise La Badie, Wanda Calico, Neva Weldin, Barbara Cunliffe, Carol Rick, Joan Needham, Cherie WaPrd, Shirley Stedman, Janet Zehnphenlg, Regina Zirkleback, Marcia LaMonte, Jackie McDonald, Jeanne Koontz, Connie Jones and Eileen Jones.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Tax of El Paso, Texas, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Harris, 1771 La Marada road. Mr. Tax was in southern California on a business trip for the El Paso Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Grace Ireland and son, Eugene, recently visited friends in La Habra. Eugene is attending California Polytechnic college at San Luis Obispo.
Dick Peabody, who is attending California Polytechnic college at San Luis Obispo, is spending a week's vacation at his home in La Habra.
John D. Hayes, assistant superintendent of Orange county schools and head of the division of instruction, was the speaker at the regular meeting of the Lincoln P-TA Tuesday evening, March 8, at 6 o'clock. Mr. Hayes' topic was "Report to Parents." Following the speech and entertainment a potluck dinner was served.
Latest of a series of "come as you are" breakfasts was held by the Wimo-Dasi club of the La Habra Eastern Star in the home of Muriel Painter. Moving pictures and snap shots of the twenty guests were taken. Purpose of the breakfasts is to raise money for the various Eastern Star projects.

MRS. LEO TAUER GETS SURPRISE GIFT
Going from house to house ringing door bells paid off for Ms Leo Tauer of 202 East Broadway Wednesday morning when she answered a knock at her door after there stood a gentleman who asked her if she had a pound of Folgins coffee in her house. Assuring her that she did have one, she was mediately presented a Westin house Laundromat with the compliment of Folger Coffee Company. Reinhardt Appliance store made the presentation to Ms Tauer. Mr. Tauer is owner of Leo's Camera shop on South Angeles street.

Death Claims
Manuel Gutierrez
Manuel Gutierrez passed away
at the Orange county hospital on
Saturday, March 12, after a short
illness. Born in Mexico 30 years ago, he had lived in the United States and California for the past seven years. His home was at 10801 Gilbert street.
Surviving are his wife, Lupe Gutierrez of the home; his father, Cesaero Gueiterrez of Mexico; four brothers, Adam, Caesar, John and Leopold, and a sister Emma Gueiterrez, all of Mexico.
Rosary was held at the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars,
Tuesday evening at 7:30 with Mass at St. Boniface Catholic church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock.
Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery.

Jeep Crash
Injures Two
Frederick C. Barnes of route 1,
Placentia, suffered major injuries
when a Jeep, in which he was a
passenger and driven by Voyle H.
Robinson of route 1, Carbon Canyon,
ran off the Carbon Canyon
road, 200 feet south of the Olinda
store Monday evening at about
6:30. Mr. Robinson received minor
injuries, according to the Californinia Highway patrolmen who investigated the wreck.
It was reported the car was
headed north and struck a guard
rail and overturned after it left
the highway.

Mr. and Mrs. William Lyman of

the parents of a daughter born
Monday, March 14, at Santa Ana
Community hospital. The little
miss weighed eight pounds and
twelve ounces.
