Kiwanis Hear Basketball Panel The new Kiwanis club president, Clyde Nickel, got hold of the gavel in his own right for the first time last Tuesday and came very near to wearing out the attention bell. The first order of business was the new budget, presented by Frank Kellogg, and after some discussion it was passed with one change which upped the Red Cross donation from $10 to $32.50. After this matter was taken care of the new president really went to work and the underprivileged child fund fattened considerably. Chairman of the day John Wallin presented a panel discussion on basketball which brought out how the officials were chosen in the local leagues and the reactions to the game from the coaches and officials standpoint. Taking part were: Bill Foote, who picks officials, Buss McKnight, Santa Ana High basketball coach, Tom Buckles, coach at Downey, Hod Chambers, Orange coach, Bud Dawson, Fullerton coach and Sam Keith, Anaheim coach, whose team later in the day won from Downey. Thought to be the only one of its type in the country, the projector will enable patients to read books whose pages are projected on the ceiling much like a movie camera. Some 50 books for the machine will soon be available at the library. To date several volumes have been bought. A doctor's prescription will be required for the issuance of the projector, Ford continued. Only truly bed-ridden patients can qualify for the loan. Upon qualification, the machine will be delivered by a Lions club member who will explain to the bed-ridden individual the method of operation, said Ford.
