Social and Club Activities GRACE THOMPSON—Phone 2206 Four Telephone Hour Broadcasts Four well known concert artists will be heard on the remaining four January broadcasts sponsored by the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company, each Monday night at 9 o'clock standard time, over NBC stations, it was announced by Robert J. Rossberg, local manager. Marian Anderson, Ezio Pinza, Jascha Heifetz and Bidu Sayao will be heard. This week's program featured Ferruccio Tagliavini and Pia Tassinari, Italian tenor and soprano, husband and wife, in duets and solos. Included was the duet "Lontano, Lontano" from "Mefistofele." Miss Anderson, noted contralto, will appear next week. Among her selections will be Bellini's "The Shepherdess and the Rose." Basso of the Metropolitan Opera, Pinza will include in his program, January 17, Handel's "Ombra Mai Fu" from "Serge." Heifetz, world-acclaimed violinist, will make his thirty-third appearance on the hour on January 24, presenting among his solos Vieuxtemps' "Ballade"" and "Polonaise." January 31, Miss Sayao, Brazilian soprano, will return to the broadcast to join in an all-Pucciniington Beach. Previously he had a radio program over Station WJOB, Hammond, Indiana, and Station WIMD, Gary, Indiana. He has played with Bert Lane and Burch Monroe. During a recent Christmas party at the 97th Street Corral enjoyed by a large group of Ming's employees and their families, Sutton acted as one of the featured entertainers. Also taking the spot light was Ford Lewis who was accompanied by Mrs. Lewis. Born in Arkansas, Lewis has been well known in California for several years, 13 of which he was vocalist on a Fresno radio station. He has been with Ming's for the past two years. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis have two young sons. Tommy Duncan and his "Western All-Stars" provided music for the party. Also present before the "mike" was the "Squeakin' Deacon," Vance Lane, KXI.A and KGER radio announcer, who played Santa Claus, Mr. and Mrs. Mings and vocalist Bobby Champion. Others enjoying the event included Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stroud, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Sas, Mr. and Mrs. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Urback, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mccello, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Earl Finley, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Tonneson, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Strode, Mrs. Alberta Brown, or Anaheim, Jack Stevens and several other persons from this area including Jay Roden and Jess Mackey. Billy Sutton, who is a vocalist on a Mings' sponsored radio program heard over station KVOE Santa Ana, was unable to attend also not present was Mrs. Monz Price of Anaheim. The majority of band men included above have been applauded by Anaheim citizens for their dance interpretations at the Harmony Park Corral here. Carmen Enjoys Varied Holiday Not one but several events highlighted the Christmas and New Year's holidays for Carmen Lizarraga, vivacious owner of Carmen's Flower Shop on East Center street. She viewed the sixtieth annual Tournament of Roses parade with friends from this city last Saturday in Pasadena. Last Thursday she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Beckenbird of Fullerton for a flying visit to Tijuana, Mexico. Today she and the couple left again for the colorful city south of the border. Sunday she enjoyed sightseeing and dining in Los Angeles with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Rocco Macri of Fullerton. New Year's eve saw a festive party given by Miss Dorothy Bowe, Girl Scout executive-director, at her North Claudina street home. Among those present were Miss Lizarraga, the hostess and Miss Marjorie Martin of Oxnard and this city. "The Shepherdess and the Rose." Bill Sutton at Harmony Park Bill Sutton and his Ranch Hands featured at Harmony Park Corral each Thursday night, as a new entertainment of the establishment, owned and operated by David Mings, also impresario of the 97th Street Corral in Los Angeles. Sutton who was born in Winchester, Tennessee, has an evening western program heard over Station KVOE, Santa Ana. A resident of California for the past five years, he is a citizen of Hunt- party. Also present before the "mike" was the "Squeakin' Deacon," Vance Lane, KXLA and KGER radio announcer, who played Santa Claus, Mr. and Mrs. Mings and vocalist Bobby Champion. He was stationed with the United States Air Forces in England for some time and during the late war was in the military service for 30 months. No date has been set for the young couple's wedding. Valedor Club Enjoys Party The beautiful Capilla de San Antonio was the scene of a gala New Year's eve buffet supper and dance given by the Valedor club, young people's organization of St. Marys Catholic church, Fullerton, and St. Boniface Catholic church, Anaheim, last Friday night. More than 50 couples enjoyed dancing to modern selections and old favorites amidst colorful streamers, confetti, tooting of horns and bobbing paper hats. Jack Du Bois and Mary Louise Heinz were co-chairmen in charge of party arrangements. MANY ATTEND TUFFREE NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY Throngs of friends of Mr. and Mrs. James Tuffree enjoyed a buffet supper and party given by the couple and their son, James, at their spacious summer home at Balboa. In addition to northern Orange county residents, numerous notables from throughout the southland were present. Phi Delta Kappa Debate Tonight Phi Delta Kappa Debate Tonight Educational guidance, a hotly controversial subject, will be debated tonight (Thursday) at a meeting of the Phi Delta Kappa, national honor society, at 7:30 o'clock following a 6 o'clock dinner in the Placentia high school. Debate topic will be "Resolved: Guidance in Education is the Responsibility of Trained Experts." The negative will be taken by the Alpha Chi chapter of Orange county, and the affirmative, by the Alpha Omicron chapter of Clairmont graduate school. Moderator will be Donald Kitch, Ph. D. of the state department of education, guidance section. Kitch will summarize main points evolving from the session so that they may be discussed at a later date in view of outlining usable working programs in school systems, Bill Cunliffe, coordinator of secondary schools in Orange county, stated. Dale Glick, superintendent of the Placentia school, will be host for the evening. Boasting a membership of 80 members, the Orange county honor organization is the newest chapter in the United States and the only one to organize following World War II. It's secretary is M. A. Gauer, superintendent of Anaheim elementary school district. Total membership in Phi Delta Kappa stands at more than 45,000.
