New Living Aids In Prospect
You can have fried chicken in 15 minutes with a new pressure fryer that also eliminates spattering and hot grease odors. A prefabricated four-room vacation cottage that can be easily set up will be on the market in the spring. Scientists have found that the vitamin P in citrus fruits makes them good for high blood pressure.
Norfolk, Va., reports that children will need fewer immunization shots now that doctors have learned that the serums for various diseases can be effectively combined. For instance, there's a combination which immunizes against diptheria, tetanus and whooping cough — all at the same time.
Akron, Ohio predicts that winter motorists should have fewer repair bills in the future. Research here shows that a pinch of sodium dichromate added to salt for icy streets will prevent the corrosion of underbodies of automobiles.
There's no give in a new kind of foamed rubber mattress. It's built to give extra support in the places where the sleeper's weight is concentrated. Note: it's specially recommended for elderly persons and convalescents.
According to Eau Claire, Wisc., pressure frying is possible with a new skillet-shaped cooker which also can be used for braising and steaming. Its makers say you can make crisp fried chicken with it in 15 minutes. It eliminates spattering and hot grease odors.
Cleveland, Ohio says that hens pecking at the floor of their coops have put scientists on a trail of a drug which shows promise in the treatment of pernicious anemia. Agricultural experts noticed that the hens did a lot of pecking in summer and that the eggs they laid hatched much better. Finally it turned out to be fermentation way. Doctors say they are particularly interested in the effect the new drug will have on the nervous lesions which cause numbness and tingling in hands and feet of patients with pernicious anemia.
News from Washington, D.C.: You may be able to buy penicillin soon without a doctor's prescription under new standards in work at the Food and Drug Administration. A minimum four-room house which a man can put up with a lug wrench will be on the market in the spring. It's made mostly of aluminum and plywood. It's designed as a vacation cottage but it can be used in some parts of the country all year round.
Plenty of pork is on its way to you, but it won't get there much before next fall. That's as soon as next spring's pig crop—expected to be the largest in our peacetime history—can reach the market.
A man has patented a device for raising and lowering the oven of an electric or gas range. You may find it installed on some of next year's models.
New York, N.Y., describes a new serving table with a heated top. You wheel it into the dining room with a whole meal of hot dishes and save yourself racing to the kitchen. While it gets hot enough to keep your food at the proper temperature, it won't injure an unwary child. It's about as hot as an ordinary steam radiator.
Lakeland, Fla. says that scientists who have both your health and an increased market for citrus in mind have completed experiments which show that oranges and grapefruit are good treatment for high blood pressure; they contain vitamin P which builds up capillaries. A protective dose of the vitamin can be obtained from four oranges or four grapefruit. But if you have high blood pressure, they think it might be a good idea to eat larger amounts through the use of a war time chemical heretofore used extensively by diaper-wash services.
News about floor mops from Rochester, N.Y.: There's one with a handle which bends and stretches to any cleaning position. You can stand up straight and run under pieces of furniture and reach the ceiling with it without benefit of a chair. Also, there's a lifetime aluminum handle which can be used interchangeably with wet and dry mops of various styles.
Rochester, Minn. sends word that radar can be used to relieve various forms of rheumatism. The small tubes needed for this can be made into a device no larger than a teacup. It is expected to supplement and often to replace the bulky, expensive diathermy machines now in use to ease aching tissue.
SAM KRAEMER HOME SCENE OF TEA
Assistance League members this city enjoyed a tea Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 5 o'clock at the Sam Kraemer home on South West street. Mrs. Harriett Amel was co-hostess with Mrs. Kraemer for the affair. Christmas decorations and a holiday motif on the tea table added to the occasion.

That's the day when all French spinsters pay tribute to their patron saint and hope that next year with bring a husband.
53 Deer Killed In Orange County in 1948
Deer killed in California during the hunting period this year have been in Orange county as compared to 104 in 1947 and 99 in 1946 according to the state division of fish and game.
The total which may be swolled by a few late deer tags is in excess of the heaviest previously reported kill which totaled 47,419 in 1946, the division said.
In the northern coast area including all the counties west of the Sacramento river and from the Bay area to the Oregon line the kill was one-fifth higher than ever before.
In the interior counties north of Calaveras and Alpine, the total was slightly higher than in 1946.
In the southern Sierra counties from Alpine to Kern, the kill dropped off six per cent. Dry weather was blamed for this as the deer moved to more favorable feeding places.
Greatest drop in the deer harvest was in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties. Dry conditions which forced the closing of many forest areas due to fire hazard and migration of deer were blamed for the decrease.
In southern California the deer kill was also less due to fire hazards and limit reductions.
The word mob is derived from the Latin "mobile vulgus," meaning excited crowd.
