'Subsidies' Topic Of Toastmasters "We Need Government Subsidies" was the hotly debated topic of a special debate session of the Anaheim Toastmasters club, Monday evening at La Palma Grill, with vice-president Victor Huber presiding in the absence of president Herman Hoch who attended the area meeting in Santa Ana that evening. Huber acted as critic-referee for the debate which saw winning honors going to the affirmative team comprising Robert H. Allen and Robert J. Allen, who were individually criticised by J. C. Thompson and Ernest Bullock, respectively. On the negative team were Al Holve, criticised by secretary Ed Wright, and Dr. Brock Roberts, criticised by Louis Taylor. General evaluator and grammarian was Dr. Don Butka. The invocation for the meeting was given by Robert J. (Bob) Allen. Muir at Army and Air Force Recruiting headquarters, 202½ W. 3rd street. The special two-man team of the colorful outfit, Sgt. 1/cl Richard Cunningham, and Sgt. James Curcio, will be available for information on the 1st Infantry throughout their stay. Southern California will have a small quota, 265 men, under the provision of the new directive permitting veterans and non-veterans, to enlist until December 31, 1948, for direct assignment to the 1st Infantry Division in Europe. Interested in 'quality rather than quantity,' the two sergeants are looking for veterans of the famed First, or recruits capable of the proud espirit de corps so noticable in the Division. "Representing the oldest Infantry Division in the Army, and Major General Clift Andrus, our commanding general," Sgt. 1/cl Cunningham pointed out, "we are looking forward to our visit in Santa Ana on 26th and 27th November.
