Laguna Beach Wins Traffic Safety Prize
Laguna Beach won the big traffic safety award of the Orange County Traffic Safety council at its monthly session in Santa Ana city hall October 7. The beach town had the best accident record for the year (Aug. 1, 1947, to Aug. 1, 1948), according to statistics and comparison methods used by the California highway patrol. The award was made by Captain Henry C. Meehan of the highway patrol. The trophy was given by the Orange County Auto club.
While some communities of the county passed through the year with no fatalities, their record was judged as less favorable than that of Laguna Beach, which had one fatality, because of their light flow of traffic as compared to the heavy flow of vehicles through Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach had, in addition to one traffic fatality, 47 cases of personal injury and 141 cases of property damage.
La Habra, Brea and Placentia went through the year without traffic fatalities. Buena Park was at the other end of the accident list with 12 fatalities.
Orange and Fullerton, like Laguna Beach, had one fatality, but Beach each had two. Santa Ana, Huntington Beach and San Juan Capistrano had four, Costa Mesa five and Anaheim six. The county total was 42.
Captain Meehan recommended that in future competition for the trophy, arrangements be made to award plaques to the communities in light traffic areas in recognition of their good records, even though they have no chance to win the trophy. Less traffic. San Clemente and Seal
Necessity for Proposition 7 Is Explained
There's too much to do in too little time in the 40 days before election. So, county clerks all over the state are pushing a Constitutional proposition in the November 2 election that will provide more time and probably will save the taxpayers money.
Proposition No. 7 on the ballot would close voter registrations 54 days before an election instead of 40 days as at present. It was placed on the ballot by the State Legislature at request of the County Clerks State Association as a plan to save time and money.
PLAN TO MARRY
Obtaining a marriage license were Edwin Earl Boyd of Norwalk and Helen W. Haake of Anaheim, late last week at the county court house in Santa Ana.
