Zedaker, 19, Edwards Apts., Anaheim, enlisted this week in the regular Army. A former student at Anaheim Union high school, Zedaker will join the U.S. Constabulary in Europe following completion of basic training. A former parachutist during World War II has rejoined the regular Army. He is Joseph A. Carmelo, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carmelo, 10871 La Palma street, Anaheim. Carmelo, who formerly attended Anaheim high school was one of the group of paratroopers who dropped from the skies on Corregidor when that famous island was recaptured from the Japanese. He takes pride in the fact that he was a member of the flag raising detail which restored the U.S. flag to that Pacific outpost, and recalls vividly the pat on the back received from General MacArthur following the General's talk at that ceremony. His present assignment will carry him to another part of the world where American troops are on occupation duty. He chose the U.S. Constabulary in the European theatre and will sail soon to commence his duties there. Included in his decorations, and awards are the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in action, the Distinguished Unit badge, the Combat Infantry and Paratroopers badges. An individual re-enlisting within 90 days from date of discharge from the Army will be accepted without regard to the number of dependents. How tough can this recruiting get??? According to the Army and Navy Register, a service newspaper, ten thousand specifically qualified Air Reserve officers who volunteer for three year tours will be recalled to active duty by the United States Air Force during the next ten months. Vacancies exist in a wide range of professional, technical and administrative fields for officers under 45 in all grades up through Lt. Colonel and in a limited number of technical positions for Colonel. The majority of these positions will be filled by non-flying officers, since there are only limited requirements for flying officers, and these are principally for navigators with radar experience. Sufficient applications have been received from flying officers to fill the immediate requirements of the Air Force; in fact, there are not enough flying assignments now for all the qualified rated officers who are seeking active duty. Officers will be called in the highest grade they held prior to separation processing and will not receive their terminal leave promotions.
