Social and Club Activities GRACE THOMPSON Phone 2206 James Burden, Pomona Co-Ed Marry Sunday Radient in an ivory satin gown, Miss Carolyn Maurer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Maurer of Holtville, Imperial Valley, became the bride of James Burden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Burden, 9591 South Valdina street, Anaheim, Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock, in the Voorhies chapel on the California Polytechnic Institute at San Dimas. Pink and white flowers and lighted tapers decorated the chapel where the young couple plighted their troth with Rev. McShane of the Monterey Park Methodist church, former pastor of the Maurer family, officiating. Given in marriage by her father, the bride carried a white prayer book graced with an orchid. Her ivory satin gown was fashioned and long skirt accented with a with long sleeves, a fitted bodice bustle. The softly tailored skirt ended in a long train. Her fingertip length veil cascaded from a coronet of pearls which graced her hair. Miss Barbara Goodson, the bride's roomate at Pomona college for the past three years, was the maid of honor. She wore a gown of fuschia toned moire taffeta and carried a bouquet of white iris contrasting with fuschia. The three bride's maids were Misses, Mary Burden, the bridegroom's sister; Joyce Card, a classmate of the bride, and Marilyn Allen, a cousin of the bride from Holtville. Each was attired in a gown of aqua moire taffeta and carried bouquets of white iris with yellow centers, contrasting with aqua ribbons. All the attendants' gowns were fashioned with short sleeves, a peplum and softly tailored skirt similar in design to the bride's gown. Serving as best man was the bridegroom's brother, Bill Burden of Los Angeles, formerly of Anaheim. Sigma Tau fraternity brothers of the groom, James Block, Ray Cowles and Claude McClane, served as ushers. The reception was held in the patio of the college immediately following the ceremony. For the occasion Mrs. Maurer, the bride's mother, chose a blue crepe gown. Mrs. Burden, mother of the bridegroom, wore a gown of pink shadow sheer. Both mothers had orchid corsages. More than 200 close friends and relatives attended the wedding. Hostesses assisting with reception duties included Pat Boericke, Pamela Rowbotham, Jean Barton, Joyce Ryder, Esther Ridgeway, Janet Gauldin, Frances Grimes and Marjorie Wagner. After cutting and sharing the first piece of their four-tiered Miss Barbara Goodson, the bride's roommate at Pomona college for the past three years, was the maid of honor. She wore a gown of fuschia toned moire taffeta and carried a bouquet of white iris contrasting with fuschia ribbon. Mrs. Burden, mother of the bride-groom, wore a gown of pink shadow sheer. After cutting and sharing the first piece of their four-tiered wedding cake toned with a miniature bridal couple, the newlyweds left for a honeymoon trin to San Francisco. Upon their return June 15, they will reside at 3412 Virginia road. Los Angeles. A graduate of Holtville high school, the new Mrs. Burden will receive her diploma from Pomona college next Monday. Her bridesgroom is a native of Anaheim and an alumni of Anaheim Union high school. During the recent war, he served as a lieutenant with the Army Air forces. Burden graduated from Pomona college last June and currently is associated with the Johnson Paper Company in Los Angeles. Phone Anaheim $115 Hostess at Aid Society Meeting Mrs. Ben Ter Beest of Ball road, was hostess to members of the Missionary Aid Society of the Grace Lutheran church, who met early last Thursday afternoon in the church parlor. Devotions were led by Mrs. C. A. Benzil. The group sang "In the Cross of Christ I Glory." Mrs. B. Baumbach, president, presided during the business meeting. The affair began with a dessert course. Mrs. E. Mickel was presented with a life membership pin by Mrs. Baumbach. A resume of the southern California summer conference was given by several members who attended the session in Ontario last week. The lesson for the afternoon, given by Mrs. E. Olsen, was entitled "Within My House." A special guest, Miss Regina Schleuker of Sacramento, aunt of Mrs. J. K. Jung, the pastor's wife, was introduced to the society. Fifteen members were present. Thirty-five dollars is being added by the group to the church's building fund, it was announced. Board Discusses Flood Relief, Local Fund Drive Plans for completing the current fund drive and for receiving contributions for food relief in Washington and Oregon were discussed at the regular monthly board meeting of the Anaheim chapter of the American Red Cross, Wednesday night of last week in the city hall headquarters. A report was given on the first aid station activities during Civic Progress Week. He is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school and took college business management courses. Currently managing his orange acreages, Gregg also conducts a chartered air service, via his five-passenger Beechcraft. Auxiliary Plans Summer Program Attractive creations for the annual fall bazaar of St. Michael's Episcopal church will be made by seamstresses of the Woman's Auxiliary, sponsoring group, during summer meetings to be scheduled it was decided during the last regular meeting of the year, June 3, in the parish house. Mrs. Eva Boyd, president, presided over the all-day affair. The auxiliary meeting was highlighted by sewing activities and preparations for Christmas work. A delectable dessert course was served by Mrs. John Kimball Saville, wife of the church's pastor. Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Enjoys Spanish Dinner A delicious Spanish dinner highlighted the final spring meeting of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Monday evening, at the home of Alice Myers in Fullerton. The bridegroom, an orange grower and pilot, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin J. Gregg, also of 9181 La Palma street. The two couples returned here from Nevada, Tuesday, via Gregg's automobile.
