ESTATE OF CHARLES GIBBONS CAMPBELL, also known as
Anaheim 'Y' New Home Site Bought
The Anaheim YMCA-YWCA announced this week, through their board of directors, the site for the erection of a new "Y" building had been purchased. President Mel Gauer said that the proposed new home will be erected as soon as sufficient funds are available. Total cash on hand together with outstanding pledges is not believed enough to build and equip the proposed building at the present time.
The property is located on Citron street just across from the Fremont Junior high school cafeteria. Three large lots were purchased from J. E. and Bertha Sehumacher, John L. Schumacher and Florence Eymann Heffern, giving total land area of 180 feet on Citron by 160 feet deep. This will give ample space for on-lot parking as well as make possible athletic activities and a barbecue area.
The location is ideal according to Gauer, inasmuch as both the Junior and Senior high school factions.
Seat Wilkinson Exalted Ruler Of Elks Lodge
Succeeding Lyman Packard, Del K. Wilkinson was installed as new exalted ruler of Anaheim Elks Lodge No. 1345, during impressive ceremonies witnessed by more than 500 Elks including local members, guests and delegations from other southern California lodges.
Heading the installation of Crown City Elks was J. Robert Paine, past exalted ruler of the Pasadena lodge and past district deputy of that district. A drill team comprising 16 members of Pasadena's Toppers, an organization which has won nation-wide recognition, was present also.
Other officers to serve with Wilkinson and inducted into office at the ceremony, were Leavitt Ford, leading knight; Lloyd Verry, loyal knight; Carrell Christie, lecturing knight; Warren Ashleigh, secretary; Glenn Kuhns, treasurer; William Stedman, trustee, and Doug Hankins, tiler.
Officers appointed by the exalted ruler were John Shea, inner guard; Al Raymond, chaplain; John Stokes, organist, and Maurice Shirk, esquire.
Honored guests introduced included William Garvin, Santa Ana, secretary to Grand Exalted Ruler L. A. "Fay"-Lewis; Robert Mohrdecker, Long Beach, district deputy grand exalted ruler, and Oscar Heying of this city, district deputy grand exalted ruler for California South.
Opening activities at the large Elks headquarters here was a 6:30 o'clock dinner in the banquet hall. Frank Mattox, past exalted ruler...

The location is ideal according to Gauer, inasmuch as both the Junior and Senior high school facilities are so close, thus it will be unnecessary to build a gymnasium and swimming pool.
Gauer stated that a generous contribution to the "Y" had been made in escrow by each of the three original owners, for which the board of directors is very grateful. "With the continued fine support of the 'Y' in Anaheim, the new building should be built and in use in the not too distant future," he said.

SAYS...
Six year enlistments and reenlistments and extensions to six years of shorter enlistments were opened up to the Army and Air Force in a revision of recruiting regulations issued by the Armed Services.
Another recent release contains the information that the department of the Army and the department of the Air Force will continue the policy of voluntary enlistment as their main objective in securing the man-power needed for current requirements. The Selective Service, if passed by Congress, will be used to supply the difference between authorized strength and the number of volunteers. The departments state that there will be no curtailment of effort in connection with the voluntary enlistment program as it is desired, in so far as possible, to fill all requirements on a voluntary basis during peace time.
A former professional football player, whom all you football fans no doubt heard much about, has been assigned to duty here in the Santa Ana Recruiting Station. He is T/Sgt. Nelson L. Peterson, ice Shirk, esquire.

Visiting delegations were from Ontario, San Diego, Long Beach Lancaster and all Orange county lodges.
Telephone Rates To Remain Same
Telephone rates in California will remain about the same, save for some adjustments, as the result of announcement today by the Public Utilities Commission that it has authorized an increase of $5,100,000 annually over its previous temporary increase of $22,455,000.
The commission's decision was the result of lengthy hearings, and resulted in a total $27,555,000 total permanent increase for the utility which originally had requested $40,000,000.
The new increase, the commission said, fixes the rate of return on the investment at 5.6 percent whereas the amount requested by the phone company would have resulted in a seven percent net return on the investment.
"Basic residence and business rates," the commission said, "will not be affected by this increase but certain adjustments where rates are out of line may be made."
Requesting an increase in the flat rate service for Anaheim, the commission refused the request. The residence service for a one party line remains at $3.50; the request asking for $4.25; two party line; $3.00; request $3.50; three-party line; $2.50; request $3.00; business one-party line; $5.75; request $7.50 and a two party line; $4.75 refusing a request for an increase to $6.25.

LOCAL MAN HURT
In Crash Monday
Russell W. Christensen, 34, of 11161 Lincoln Avenue, Anaheim, received minor injuries Monday, when the car he was driving collided with another at Hikhway 101 and Orangethorpe avenue, Anaheim.
A Los Angeles man, Zacarias Hernandez, 56, was listed as the driver of the other machine by California Highway patrolmen.
Reportedly, Christensen's car stopped, with the car of Hernandez crashing into the rear of the first vehicle.
The local man was taken home by a friend.

A former professional football player, whom all you football fans no doubt heard much about, has been assigned to duty here in the Santa Ana Recruiting Station. He is T/Sgt. Nelson L. Peterson, United States Army. Pete, who came here from the Knoxville, Tenn., recruiting station played in the American League before the war, played with such teams as the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Rams and the Columbus Bulls. In 1937 through 1939 he was among the National League's highest scorers and while playing with the Columbus Bulls was chosen as all-pro half-back in 1940.
We're glad to have Pete with us for a couple of good reasons, namely, he has a darn good record in the Knoxville area for getting his fair share of recruits and secondly, for the connections he has with the professional football outfits promises to pay off when the "Annie Oakley's" are passed out.

YOUR INCOMETAX
After May 1, under the new tax reduction law, the Revenue Act of 1948, the "take home" pay wages will increase for wage earners, because the amount the employer has to hold out for income tax will be less than before that day. The lowered withholding amounts are due to the cut in taxes that will be figured for 1948. The tax cut applies to the whole year 1948, but the lower withholding, which is credited against your actual tax applies only to wages paid on and after May 1, 1948. You may be entitled to a refund for overpayment on deductions made till May 1, 1948.
The amount of the tax cut depends on several factors. First the actual rates are reduced something over 12 per cent on the first $2,000 of taxable income and by smaller amounts on higher incomes. Then the personal exemption and credit dependents are raised from $500.00 to $600.00 and other technical changes also affect the tax. In addition married couples can file one return and treat their total income as if it belonged one half to each. This has been permitted in community property states, but is now applicable to all.
Who are my dependents? Before you can claim an exemption for a dependent in 1948, the dependent must meet all these tests:
1. He must have less than $500.00 gross income for 1948.
2. You must furnish more than
