Social and Club Activities GRACE THOMPSON Phone 2206 ANNUAL EBELL FLOWER FIESTA OPENS TODAY, CONTINUES FRIDAY As a memorial to the late Mrs. George Greder, the annual Flower Fiesta, of which, until her tragic death, she was chairman, is being presented by the Anaheim Junior and Senior Ebell clubs, today (Thursday) and tomorrow in the clubhouse from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until 9 o'clock each evening. A beautiful floral tribute has been arranged, dedicated to Mrs. Greder, who was well known in Orange county as a garden enthusiast and as a prominent fraternal and club woman, for her energetic work in the senior Ebell club and for her love for and talent with flowers. Mrs. Norman Lombard, senior Ebell club member, is the present chairman of the annual fiesta. For the first time, the Junior Ebell club is working with the senior group in staging the event, which, this year, has a spring motif. Appropriate Spanish costumes are being worn by members. The original posters were designed by Mrs. Milton Sell, with Anna Jackson and Mrs. Kenneth Hellyer, assisting. Volunteer members worked on the placards which were distributed throughout the city two weeks ago. Prizes as well as ribbons are awarded to a group of Girl Scouts. Other aides are working at inoculation and other clinics throughout the county. Mrs. Emory Simon reported volunteer services that 27 volunteers gave 302 hours of working the month. Forty-nine swaters, four pairs of sox, 25 filled kit bags and 109 be bags were sent to the area of San Francisco, for distribution hospitals. Forty-eight standard and 18 advanced first aid certificates issued in March. Two first classes are in progress, one at press and one at Los Alamitos. Mrs. Leo Friis, chapter man, was elected delegate to Red Cross national convention convene in San Francisco, 21-24. The home service report said that 48 cases were opened last month, 10 of which were new and three of which were opened. Financial assistance given two servicemen and veterans. Information was given 35. There were 40 office calls and nine home calls were made. Funds for the drive are coined in steadily and campaign members stated they hope to complete drive by the middle of this month. Entertain Two Rotary Clubs Appearing in a program preached by the Fullerton Junior League A Cappella choir and a quartet, given at the joint meeting of the Fullerton and Bellevue Rotary clubs, Thursday, at flower, were several vocalists this vicinity. Judging of entries took place this morning beginning at 10 o'clock, after the Gazette's deadline. All flowers entered were required to be amateur grown with the exception of those used in arrangements. Displays by professional florists and nursery men of Anaheim form an attractive section in the large building. Floral sections include roses, sweet peas, annuals and perennials, bulbs, and a section of camellias, azaleas, gardenias, Strelitzia Regina (Bird of Paradise) and orchids. In section "F", are arrangements by color, of dry materials such as ornamental grasses and weeds, or fruits and vegetables, exhibits for the wall and table and oriental exhibits. A special miniature display features entries one inch and under in size and miscellaneous arrangements governed by rigid rules as to size. School exhibits displayed include wall arrangements, platters and small bowls, vases and bowls, figurine arrangements, special holiday or birthday entries, miniature gardens, May baskets and miniatures. Assisting Mrs. Lombard with over-all arrangements is Mrs. Robert Harvey. All co-chairmen are Junior Ebell members who are cooperating with the Senior Ebell chairmen. Mrs. C. C. Reinert is in charge of admissions; Mrs. Louise Dahlman, awards; Mrs. Arthur Kemper, assisted by Mrs. William Cook, classifications; Mrs. S. K. Watters, assisted by Mrs. Loren Wagner, entries; Mrs. J. E. Baker, finance; This afternoon Marilyn Rogers Nelson, accordionist, will be heard. Tonight the Trio Placentia comprising Tony Guerrero, Ray Perez and Pancho Acezes, Mexican American Movement members will sing and play. Friday afternoon a MAM vocalist will sing. That evening Bobby Martin will play rhythmic pieces on her accordion. A professional radio and stage personality, she is an instructor at the Richards-Martin school. The attractive Ebell tea room will remain open for the entire show, club spokesmen announced. Varied Session For Red Cross Board Members Plans for the blood typing service held at the Ebell club house Friday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 o'clock were discussed during the monthly board meeting of the Anaheim chapter of the American Red Cross, Wednesday night of last week in the chapter office, second floor, city hall. A good turn out of persons between the ages of 21 to 60, without appointment, were typed, it was disclosed later. These donors who were typed will be available in emergencies. L. M. Pickel, disaster relief chairman, reported the appointment of Howard Loudon, Jr., as vice-chairman of the committee. Mrs. Hilda Redmon of Santa Ana has been appointed county coordinator of disaster relief, so that county officials will have some one person to notify in the event of a disaster. Production rooms are open every Tuesday from 10 to 4 o'clock at the chapter's headquarters. Red Cross spokesmen urged seamstresses to participate in current projects stressing that the quota must be met. Sweaters to be knitted, layettes and other garments may be worked on either at the chapter rooms or taken out, it was announced. The canteen committee serves lunch to production workers. Mrs. A. H. Born to the stage, her parents were vaudevillians. In recent years she has been playing in Hollywood radio and acting at the Council, comprising Fullerton, Santa Ana and this city. Concluding this week's meeting was a refreshment period. Delicious cakes, tea and coffee were served with Mrs. Myrtle Peterson, advsor, pouring. Beautiful silver service graced the buffet table. P.E.O Chapter BP Hear Play Review "John Love Mary," a comedy by Norman Krasna, was very celly reviewed by Mrs. Wesley Visel of Glendora, formerly Miss Adele Rundstrom of this city, who is now teaching drama at the Brown School for Girls, Wednesday afternoon at the luncheon meeting of P.E.O. Chapter BP at the home of Mrs. Howard Tews on North Helena street. Assisting hostess was Mrs. Ben Kaulbars. The guest artist, Mrs. Visel, is doing dramatic readings and reviews professionally. She has a most interesting way of present-in gher reviews and is highly praised for the fine work she does. Many residents of this city remember her when she resided here. The meeting convened at 12:30 for the luncheon followed by the business session and the review by the guest artist. Linen Shower In Heinz Home For Laura Karcher MARY FINNEY Pasadena playhouse. She made her New York debut with the late Frank Craven in "Oedipus Wrecks." At the close of the Holiday theater in Tustin high school auditorium last September, Miss Finney flew to Dallas, Texas, for a 40-week winter season with the well known Margo Jones professional stock company. She portrayed roles running the gamut from farce to tragedy, Ibsen to Shakespeare. Telephone County Film Shown To Credit Women An extremely interesting informative film, "Tele Courtesy" was shown to all of the Northern Orange Credit Women's club last evening when they met home of Mrs. Gallagher Stedman at 514 West Street, Fullerton, for the lar monthly meeting. It was shown through the door of Mr. Rossberg, managing Pacific Telephone and TV Company for this area. Being a 'telephone person' one of the requisites of good phone manners, a qualifying sental to a successful bujo. The film very graphically ed the differences between pleasant and courteous user and an abrupt user. Ed what should and should done in order to save the patience of the party on the end of the line as well as himself. Installation of the sorority officers will be at the next meeting, April 19, at 342 West Jacaranda street, Fullerton. The southern California Council breakfast will be May 16 at Sherman Oaks and the Founders' Day banquet will be April 30 at Houston Meadows where Anaheim's Tau chapter will join the Tri-City praised for the fine work she does. Attend Floral School Monday Several persons from Anaheim were among the more than 500 florists and growers attending the second Monday night session of a five-week advanced floral school at the Los Angeles Market on Wall street. A review of floral arrangements and casket covers for funerals was given. Narrator was Vern Jackson, director of a floral school in Los Angeles. Emile, a prominent designer, spoke also. Last week a demonstration of floral sprays was given. Next week set pieces will be the subject. Those present from this city included Carmen Lizzarraga of Carmen's Flower shop, Wayne Andrade of Wayne's for Flowers; Mary Simeon of Arnold's, Miss Ottilie Stechert of Stechert's and Ed Daly, a local grower.
