Albert Kadelbach, Mrs. R. Melcher Honored Wed. Eve
A dual event, the retirement of Albert Kadelbach and a shower party for Mrs. Raymond Melcher, nee Ethel Banard, was enjoyed by approximately fifty members of the local post office force and their families, last night, Wednesday, when Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Barthelmes of 423 South Indiana street, very happily surprised the honorees when they arrived at their home at 8 p.m. to find the entire force of the office assembled to express their greetings and congratulations.
Mr. Kadelbach entered the service of the post office department at the local office twenty years or more ago and had spent the entire time at the registry window, where he was known for his happy disposition and sunny smile.
Eldon Deering, assistant postmaster, presented Mr. Kadelbach with a beautiful enlarged colored picture of "Half Dome" in Yosemite Park, an actual photograph from the Spears Studio and hand painted by Mrs. Spears. He was also presented with a monetary gift, both gifts from his fellow employees.
The second surprise event of the evening was the shower gift collector's point of view. She presented estimates of reasonable prices for different types of dolls and important factors to note when choosing additions to amateur collections. She also led the discussion period. Another speakear on the program was Mrs. Ray Tozer who also gave a dissertation on the art of collecting dolls.
Personal experiences in the field of doll collecting were disclosed by Mrs. Walter R. Reinhardt, Mrs. M. Mathenites and Mrs. Ives.
The possibility of organizing a northern Orange county doll collectors' club was discussed by the group who admired the more than 600 doll and animal guests attending Pinocchio's anniversary celebration.
Among the late-comers to the array of rare and unusual dolls are the old authentic dolls from Switzerland, Norway, Holland and Scotland, loaned by Mrs. George Salisbury, a native of Norway, and a delicate set of cloth miniatures depicting the Nativity scene created by an 85-year-old Mexican woman, and loaned by Mrs. Mathenites.
Miss Elva Haskett, children's librarian, has described the inanimate visitors to scores of youngsters, adults and elementary school classes and troops of Girl Scouts.
