A holder of two degrees, a master of arts and doctor of philosophy, Carmichael studied theater technique at the Universities of Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. Later he joined the staff of Purdue university as director of the campus and Lafayette theaters. During his 10-year association with these organizations, Carmichael produced and directed 80 plays including Broadway hits, musical comedies and original full-length scripts. With a hobby of writing; Carmichael has written many books, scores of magazine articles and short plays which have been published and produced nationally by semi-professional theaters. Among his successful plays are "Gaff," "Silver," "And So—" and one musical play, "Simpleton Simon" which remains a current theatrical favorite. Two of the versatile writer and producer's more scholarly works, each representing several years of exhaustive research, are "Half a Century of Scenic Evolution" "The Best Representative Short Plays, in America from 1900 to 1940." These authoritative dissertations of the theater are of much interest to scholars in the field according to Holiday Stage spokesmen. During the war, Carmichael served in the Navy with headquarters in Washington, D. C., and Hollywood where he prepared copy for incentive posters, Navy backings for newsmaps and national publications and also worked as technical advisor on a number of film series, supervising the productions from their outline stages to the finished screenplay. I started back to school, Yie, I'm completing work for my high school diploma while I'm in the Army. The instructors are great and Speen to be getting lots more out of it than we did at dear old Blair High. Well, Steve, must close mom. It's show time and I smell steak... Oh boy! Remember what I told you in my last letter? Why not check with Sergeant Phillips at the Army and Air Force Recruiting office. He's a good guy. Pay I sent you. Write poem. Your pal, Jerry
