To Hear Relief Broadcast Sunday Episcopal Church Members of St. Michael’s Episcopal church of this city will hear a radio broadcast Sunday morning during the regular service hour when the Presiding Bishop of the church, the Rt. Rev. Henry Knox Sherrill will speak directly to the congregations gathered in churches throughout the United States. During 1947 American churches gave over five million dollars in cash and more than fifteen million pounds of miscellaneous supplies to help the hungry, sick, naked peoples of war-wrecked countries in Europe and Asia. During 1947 the Episcopal church raised a million dollars in cash and gathered tons of supplies stated Rev. Saville, rector of the local Episcopal church. The purpose of the Sunday broadcast is to secure another million dollars for 1948—and most of it in one day as their goal. Launching the effort the Presiding Bishop of the church, the Rt. Rev. Sherrill will be heard in thousands of churches from coast to coast, through an unprecedented combination of network and independent radio stations, a combination so vast that it will reach the smallest and remotest mission as well as the great city church. Literally there is no part of the whole United States that will not be reached by Bishop Sherrill’s statement about bitter needs as he himself has seen it in Europe, and the part of Christians everywhere in relieving the needs of fellow-Christians overseas and the bringing of new hope to people who have lost even the sense of human dignity. Episcopal Bishop to Broadcast The Rt. Rev. Henry Knox Sherrill, presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, who is asking Episcopal Church members to contribute a million dollars in 1948 for the relief of needy peoples in devastated countries of Europe and Asia. The Church raises million dollars for this purpose in 1947, and will attempt to a similar amount in 1948 and a third million in 1949. Received through Church World Service in Europe and the New Christian Councils in the Oriental countries. Rev. Saville stated the Episcopal campaign is believed to be the first important relief effort of this year by any church and it is the only church campaign ever to be inaugurated with the assistance of such an extraordinary radio arrangement. Episcopal church leaders explain that while government aid and secular relief agencies can reduce physical want and provide basic essentials of life, such agencies cannot attempt to offer the spiritual vitality so lacking in the war-disrupted countries. Only the church can do this. The First Church of Christ, Solentist, in Boston. The Golden Text is from the Psalms; "Thou art fairer than the children of men; grace is poured into thy lips; therefore God hath blessed them for ever." A Scriptural passage from Isaiah reads, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath mointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound... To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified." On this subject Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures;" "Christ is the true idea volving good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual—yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death." A marriage license was obtained by Ralph P. Stewart and Grietta Jane De Graaf, both of Anaheim, last Thursday at the county court house in Santa Ana. LOOK YOUNG MAN! DO YOU HAVE A PLAN?
