SOCIAL AND CLUB ACTIVITIES GRACE THOMPSON PHONE 2206 DORIS HILTON AND KERMIT THOMAS EXCHANGE WEDDING VOWS SUNDAY Miss Doris Edith Hilton of this city became the bride of Kermit Thomas in simple but beautiful rites solemnized last Sunday afternoon at three o'clock in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. Howard S. Congdon, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Stanley Frederick George, former pastor of the local church but now of San Bernardino, reading the ceremony before a large number of friends and relatives. Before an altar of potted shrubs, palms, masses of white flowers with lighted tapers in cathedral candelabra casting a soft glow over the nuptial setting, the young couple pledged their troth. The bride, beautiful in a gown of heavy brocaded white satin fashioned with a full skirt and fitted bodice, was given in marriage by her father, E. W. Hilton. Her long veil was held in place by a tira of seed pearl flowers and she carried a heart-shaped bridal bouquet of white gladioli centered with two orchids. The pearl necklace she wore was a gift from her bridegroom. Nuptial soloist was Miss Donna Flynn who sang a wedding song, "My Heart Will Always Follow You," composed especially for the bride and her bridegroom by Mrs. Alice Gregory Eaton, aunt of Miss Hilton. As the couple kneeled for the nuptial blessing, Miss Flynn sang "The Lord's Prayer" by Mallotte. Mrs. Susan Hilbers Talvich, at the console of the organ, accompanied the soloists and played the traditional wedding marchen. Monroe Sharpless sang, as a prelude, "Because." Mrs. Dan Trabant, sister of theesses were Misses Beverley Wear, Mary Lou Dunham and Rosemary George. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mitchell were in charge of the guest book. Background music for the reception was played by Mrs. Audrey Baxter Carle at the piano. The new Mrs. Thomas chose for her traveling costume a smoke blue suit and brown accessories and the orchids from her bridal bouquet gracing the lapel of her jacket. The young couple left later in the day for a week's honeymoon trip to an undisclosed destination, presumably the mountains. Mrs. Thomas is a graduate of the Anaheim Union high school and later attended Whittier college. During her school years, she was very active in music and curricular activities. She is employed at the Northern Orange County Credit Bureau in the Bank of America building in this city. Mr. Thomas is a fireman first class, and is now doing duty aboard the USS St. Paul, at present docked at Long Beach Naval base. Recently he returned from Choral Groups Of Presbyterian Church to Sing. Next Sunday, December twenty-first, will be a festive day for the First Presbyterian church of Auburn. A special evening service at seven-thirty o'clock is entailed in the hands of the Ministry Music and the seventy-five members of its four choirs. The musical program is of ambitious proportions, offering excerpts from Handel's oratorio, "The Messiah" along with Christmas anthems rendered by all choirs and合唱singing by the entire congregation. This is the first complete musical program to be given since the full-time Ministry of Music duties have been taken over by Arnold Lewerenz. Already there are four choral organizations which include all age groups from nine years through adulthood. Early spring the graded choir program will reach even those young as four years. The Christmas musical service is divided into three distinct sections, The Prophecy, The Prophecy Fulfilled, and The Addition, being bound coherently together by the Christmas story found in St. Luke. Solos from "The Messiah" will be sung by Mrs. David Collins, soprano; Mr. Arnold Lewerenz, contralto; Rert Larsen, baritone; and Arnold O. Lewerenz, tenor. Other solists from the Chancel choir will be Loretta Franzen and Bernie Nelson, sopranos; Betty Wilmott contralto; and Chad Boliek, bass tone. Members of the Tuxis choir Harry Beans, Miriam Congdon Diane Coons, Elizabeth Ann Ben Arthur Cross, Ben Curtis, Naun Jo Ellis, Yvonne Fitz, Jim Harding, Mary Lee Holiday, Mimie Hodges, Ronny Huebert, Daniel Kelsay, Phyllis Kirchmann, Dale Ald Kohlenberger, John Kohl "My Heart Will Always Follow You," composed especially for the bride and her bridegroom by Mrs. Alice Gregory Eaton, aunt of Miss Hilton. As the couple kneeled for the nuptial blessing, Miss Flynn sang "The Lord's Prayer" by Mallotte. Mrs. Susan Hilbers Talevich, at the console of the organ, accompanied the soloists and played the traditional wedding marchen. Monroe Sharpless sang, as a prelude, "Because." Mrs. Dan Trabant, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and wore a cream toned brocaded satin gown fashioned with full shirt, fitted bodice and short sleeves. Mrs. LeRoy Ferguson and Mrs. Albert Fanning, close friends of the bride, were attendants also, wearing blue brocaded taffeta gowns identical to that of the matron of honor. Each carried a muff matching their gown, to which had been pinned a cluster of roses. Flower girls were the little Misses Kathy Morris and Judy Foster wearing blue-toned floor-length gowns and carrying white baskets filled with rose petals. Carlyle George, son of the assisting pastor, was ring bearer. Serving the bridegroom as best man was Don Trabant while LeRoy Ferguson, William Rapp, James Rapp and Don Chamberlain were the ushers. Joining the wedding party in the church parlor for a reception were the parents of the bride, Mrs. Hilton choosing a gown of royal blue and a corsage of rosebuds. More than 100 guests were greeted during the reception. The bride’s table was centered with a tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bridal scene and was flanked on either side by lighted tapers and white flowers. The sentimental accent of the traditional cutting of the cake by the bride and bridegroom was the rendition of the beautiful “Always” sung by Mr. Sharpless, a request of the groom. Assisting with the hostess duties were Mrs. Stanley F. George cutting the cake, Mrs. Juanita Ross ann Mrs. Cordon Purdy presiding at the coffee urns.
