Cash Carrying System at SQR Causes Comment Some are calling it a "pipe organ"; others, less romantic and more military say, "engine room of a battleship"; old timers insist, "brewery." Actually it's a pneumatic tube cash carrying system, now being installed in the SQR Store on West Center and Lemon streets. Construction of the vacuum system which features multi-piping and a complicated compressor and motor set-up in the basement, has been underway for the past six weeks at the store and work will continue for approximately three more weeks, according to Oscar Renner, store executive. The streamlined apparatus will not be unattractive when completed and will give faster and quieter service than the old cable system, SQR officials disclosed. Customers' cash or charge slips will be inhaled by the diverse tubes in the basement, main and second floors, and carried swiftly to be registered or charged in the bookkeeping department. Change, from bills given for purchases, will be shot back to clerks for their customers in like fashion.
