Anaheim Girl Weds Pastor's Son in Fullerton
The Nazarene church of Fullerton was the scene for the wedding of Miss Barney Beatrice Booher, daughter of Mrs. Barney P. Booher of West Anaheim, and Harold Van Weaver, son of the Rev. and Mrs. L. I. Van Weaver of Fullerton, last Friday evening. Rev. Van Weaver, the bridegroom's father and pastor of that church, officiated for the ceremony.
The bride chose a smartly tailored beige suit accented with brown accessories for her wedding ensemble. A corsage of red roses was worn on her lapel.
Sister of the bride, Miss Margaret Booher, was the bride's only attendant. She wore a turquoise suit and a carnation corsage.
Serving as best man was Harold Johnson. Ushers included Robert Scott and Alton Morse.
Immediately following the ceremony, the reception was held in the Booher home. Mrs. Booher was attired in a black checked suit and wore a gardenia corsage. Mother of the bridegroom chose a black dress with corsage of gardenias.
Assisting with the hostess duties were Mrs. Docia Allen, the bride's sister, and Mrs. Lawrence Hall, a close friend. Presiding over the placed beneath the towering eucalyptus trees. A miniature birthday cake topped with one candle was presented to Moore by his granddaughter, Lois Jean Leisch.
A long time resident of this area, Moore has lived at his present orange grove ranch home near Atwood for the past 14 years. His wife, Effie, passed away two years ago.
In addition to working on his grove, Moore is an active sports fan, and follows athletic events on his radio when not attending them. He played professional baseball with the St. Joseph, Missouri team of the western league, when a younger man.
Moore's four sons include Fred of Sierra Madre, Earl of Pasadena, Hershel and Elwood Moore of Atwood. His daughters are Mesdames Gene Warmick of Azusa, E. Y. Shipley of Los Angeles; Wesley Leisch of Buena Park, and Gene Chism of Escondido.
Special guest at Sunday's party was his sister, Mrs. Essie Perry of Pomona.
54 Attend Girl Scout Scribes' Tea, Troops Meet
Fifty-four Girl Scout leaders and troop scribes attended the Girl Scout Scribes' tea, Saturday afternoon, in the Girl Scout house on South Citron street. Mrs. F. E. Troop leader is Mrs. U. H., and Ann Kennedy is the All St. Boniface Scouts will a breakfast in St. Boniface on Girl Scout Supday, October it was announced. Decoration the breakfast will be arranged members of Troop No. 8.

The young couple will reside in Cypress upon their return from a short honeymoon trip of undisclosed destination.
The new Mrs. Van Weaver is an alumnus of Anaheim Union high school. Her bridegroom is a graduate of Fullerton schools and is associated as a mechanic with a tractor company in Los Angeles.

In honor of Alexander S. Moore's seventy-second birthday, his eight children gave him a surprise anniversary dinner last Sunday in the Moore home near Atwood. Also attending the affair were four of his grandchildren and seven close friends.

54 Attend Girl Scout Scribes' Tea; Troops Meet
Fifty-four Girl Scout leaders and troop scribes attended the Girl Scout Scribes' tea, Saturday afternoon, in the Girl Scout house on South Citron street. Mrs. F. E. Simonton was introduced as the newspaper reporter of the public relations committee.
The pledge to the flag and the singing of "God Bless America" by the group opened the meeting. Each scribe was given a booklet containing information concerning the reporting of troop activities.
Miss Dorothy Bowe, Anaheim Girl Scout director, led the leaders and girls in several games and songs. Group pictures were taken by Mrs. Clyde Dawson.
In charge of tea arrangements was Mrs. M. F. Glenn, program chairman. Mrs. Norbert DeCook and Mrs. Stanley Lewis presided at the buffet table. Refreshments of cider and cookies were enjoyed.
The tea program closed with the traditional Girl Scout circle and singing of taps.

in La Habra 15 years.
Showing that he continues to
be imbued with this same vibrant
philosophy, Barney attended a
motion picture theater recently
where candy bars were being presented to all youngsters under 12
years of age. Barney requested
his portion of sweet calories.
"But, they're only for children."
The candy counter girl demurred.
"Well," said Barney, subduing
twinkle, "I'm in my second childhood."
He got his candy bar.
Barney's favorite section of the
Anaheim Gazette is the 75; 50 and
25 year ago columns. Viewing the
paper's anniversary edition, published December 6, 1945, he smiled, "Yep, those scenes look familiar."
Varied Meet For Toastmistress'

Anaheim Toastmistress club gathered for the regular speech session last Thursday night at 7:30 o'clock In the health department office of the city hall. Toastmistress of the evening was Mrs. M.
L. Spencer who discussed "Keeping Faith With Our Founder."
Mrs. Lucille Williams of the Toastmistress club No. 1 of Santa Ana, presented a brief history of the club. Chairman of the forum was Mrs. Paul K. Doyle. She gave the topic "Will Compulsory Military Training be Good or Bad for Our Boys?" Miss Margaret Freeman spoke in favor of the proposed measure and Miss Sarah Wheatley took the con view. General discussion followed.

Altrusans Hear 'Old China' Talk By Mrs. Hagerty
Old china was discussed by Mrs.
Gertrude Hagerty during the regular dinner-meeting of the Anaheim Altrusa club Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock in Dorothy and Wade's cafe on East Center street. Mrs. Hildred Ferrell, president, presided during the business session.
The historical background of several rare collectors' items was disclosed by Mrs. Hagerty as she displayed the delicate pieces. An antique dealer, she has a personal collection of more than 80 demitasse sets. One cup and saucer viewed by the club members was a Misen demitasse with a distinctive raised leaf pattern.
Mrs. Nina Gould, petite Altrusan, was elected to be the Slick Chick honoree on their decorated car in the grand Hallowe'en parade next Thursday night. A bevy of club lovelles will ride in the entry also, club spokesmen announced.

Awaits Miguelitos
Duo festivities will highlight Friday evening for members of Los Miguelitos, young people’s group of St. Michael's Episcopal church. The group will meet at the church, which will be the focal point for a scavenger hunt throughout the downtown area, then enjoy a holiday party in the spacious Santa Ana Canyon home of Leroy Harvill.
In charge of arrangements for the double billing are Lia Bertrand, games; Kathleen Austin, decorations; and Wanda Chambers, refreshments.
Orchestra Wants More Violinists
Both first and second violins are needed to complete the total blending in the well-known Orange County Philharmonic orchestra, Miss Norma Le Perkins founder and director of the symphonic group which has won recognition in “Who’s Who in Music,” announced today.
In addition to violinists, all instrumentalists interested in join-entry also, club spokesmen announced.

Honoree at a baby shower was Mrs. Wayne Wharton (nee Eileen King) who enjoyed the hospitality of Mrs. F. S. Garrett and her daughter, Miss Margaret Garrett, of 127 West Valencia street, Monday evening.
After Mrs. Wharton opened her many lovely gifts, shower games were played with prizes going to Mesdames Min and Jack Wharton.
Appropriate refreshments of pumpkin pie a la mode, tea and coffee were served.
Those present included Mrs. George W. King, mother of the honored guest; Mrs. Betty Dodge; Mrs. Sylvia Buck; Mrs. Glen Butcher; Mrs. John K. Saville; Mrs. Jack Wharton, sister-in-law of the guest of honor; Mrs. Minnie Wharton, the honoree’s mother-in-law and the co-hostesses.

Charm School To Begin Tonight In Santa Ana
Tonight (Thursday) at 7 o'clock the premier class of a charm school for 8 to 14-year-old girls will begin at 606 South Main street, Santa Ana, under the direction of Mrs. Anne Flynn, Los Angeles fashion expert.
The series of classes will continue for six weeks and is open to Orange county girls within that age group, she disclosed.
Since it will be the first charm course of its kind to be introduced within Orange county a large attendance is expected by the school. The course will feature such subjects as etiquette, good grooming, cleanliness and young fashions.
Mrs. Flynn's theme for the school will be "Well Trained Children Make Charming Women." A former resident of Anaheim, Mrs. Flynn lived at 901
Gregg Bumped By Long Beach Semi-Pro Team
While he was good enough to pitch for Brooklyn three times in the World Series, Hal "Skeets" Gregg was charged with the defeat when the Schwartz Travelers of Long Beach beat Fullerton's Lions Sunday 7 to 0 in a semi-pro game.
The Long Beach club included such Pacific Coast players as Hugh Orphan, Gabby Stewart and Gus Zernial and the twins, Bill and Bob White of the International league.
Gregg pitched four innings during which the Travelers scored two of their seven runs.

Proud parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lowery, 401 Marshall street, Buena Park, who announce the birth of a baby son in Santa Ana Community hospital last Thursday. The newcomer weighed eight pounds and one-half ounce.
NEW DAUGHTER
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Danker of Route 3, Box 297-C, Anaheim, are the proud parents of a baby daughter who arrived Sunday, at St. Joseph hospital, Orange, tipping the scales at seven pounds, five and one-half ounces.
